The most powerful Golf of all time, the Golf R, hides 320 German horsepower under the hood, 420 Nm of torque and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 5 seconds. This is how the people's car becomes especially good.
Volkswagen presented another representative with the R designation, of course the Golf R. About a year has passed since the presentation of the eighth generation of the Volkswagen Golf, whose family gradually expanded in the following months with different engines and sports versions GTI in GTI versions and GTI Clubsport and the GTD version. All of them were followed by the plug-in hybrid GTE with 245 hp. At Volkswagen, they are definitely serious about the Golf and as part of their strategy of teasing fans, they are hiding the best for last.
The new Golf R the eighth generation king of the compact class is the fastest and most powerful version to date Volkswagen's legendary family hatchbacks. But he's not the only one with an R rating that has apparently become the cherry on top of the cream. Although we all really like the traditional one GTI Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport: currently the most "furious" Golf.
Like big brothers, Arteon R and Tiguan R, it has a 2.0-liter TSI turbo petrol engine, which is currently the most powerful engine in the EA888 series. With 320 hp, it develops exactly 20 hp more than before, with maximum torque increased from 400 to 420 Nm, at 2100 - 5350 rpm. The new Golf R it uses exclusively the 7-speed DSG gearbox and reaches a speed of 100 km/h from standstill only 4.7 seconds. Its maximum speed is electronically limited at 250 km/h. For those for whom even that is not enough, there is also a version with the R-Performance package, which pushes the Golf R up to 270 km/h. Despite all this "Benz" brutality, the engine of the new Golf R meets the Euro 6d-ISC-FCM emission standard.
The new Golf R is equipped as standard with the thoroughly improved 4Motion all-wheel drive with R-Performance Torque Vectoring. As with the conventional 4Motion drive, the multi-plate clutch on the rear axle distributes the power between the front and rear axles. In the torque vector version of the Golf R, the driving force is also variably distributed between the left and right rear wheels. When cornering, up to 100 percent of the power is directed to the wheel on the outside of the corner, making it easier to turn by reducing the bend radius and understeer.
All-wheel drive 4Motion of the new Golf R works closely with other automotive elements such as DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control), the XDS differential and progressive steering, all thanks to the Driving Dynamics Manager. In this way, you can change its operation by choosing the different driving modes present: Comfort, Sport, Race and Individual, to which you can add the optional Special and Drift if you choose the package R-Performance. Creators of the new Golfa R was inspired by the Nürburgring track, so they decided to install a special mode (Nürburgring Mode). The brakes on the front axle are also new 18-inch ones brake discs.
Interestingly, it is the new generation Golf R achieved just in the "green hell". 17 seconds better result compared to the previous generation. This shows that the engineers have really shown what the new Golf R can do.
It is also quite changed exterior design of the new Golf, with a wider rear track and specific stock 18-inch alloy wheels and 20mm lowered suspension. At the front, you can immediately notice the larger air intakes, LED lights with a glossy black color and a blue light strip that runs the entire width of the thin grille.
At the rear, the redesigned bumper, diffuser in glossy black and four chrome exhaust pipes stand out. As with other models from the R family, you can also choose an Akrapovič exhaust, which is 7 kg lighter and has an even more pronounced sound. The choice of body colors is limited to three: blue with a metallic Lapiz shine, pure white or deep black Perleffect.
Inside, the layout of the elements is taken from eighth generation Golf, but everything is arranged in a sporty style: the Digital Cockpit Pro has a dedicated Sport name graphic, the seats are sporty with an integrated headrest, the steering wheel has an R button for selecting the driving mode and the manual gearshift levers are larger. The list of additional equipment and options is long and Germanic precise. The value of this Golf can thus skyrocket.
In Germany, the new Golf R will be available to order on November 5. The price is not known at this time, but it will be extremely insignificant for most buyers. This is a particularly good people's car.
