In 2019, the cathedral was engulfed in a devastating fire, which meant great cultural and architectural destruction. One of the most iconic pieces of medieval architecture in the world was badly damaged in the flames. Almost five years after the catastrophic fire, the famous cathedral will reopen its doors to the general public. According to the official announcement, this should happen December 8, 2024.

One of the plans suggested that the new Notre-Dame could have a "Disney" look with light and sound effects, while another suggested that the area around the cathedral be surrounded by greenery and an underground path. However, the authorities have decided to bring the renovation as close as possible to its original state. They redesigned the 96-meter bell tower and revived the iconic central part of the cathedral.
The original plans were to open Notre-Dame in time for the Olympic Games in Paris, which will take place in the summer of 2024. But due to complications in stabilizing the structure, the project will take a little longer than expected.
