S Shrove Tuesdays the traditional happy and playful period ends and Ash Wednesday in the Christian tradition, it dictates a forty-day period fast. In the past, the strictness and seriousness of this day somehow bypassed the city taverns by preparing the so-called salty meals. Among them also Union Grand Hotel, which revives the tradition even today.
This year's 89. Slaniko's feast it offers a culinary exhibition for the eyes and salty delicacies for the taste buds. However, they brought freshness to the event seven years ago, that is culinary competition in the preparation of cold displayed fish, crabs, mussels, molluscs, desserts, culinary artistry on the theme of Slaniko's feast (from ice, salt, dough, fruit, vegetables, sugar, marzipan) and the preparation of seafood risotto and brodet in front of the guests.
Everything happens under a watchful eye juries, which also consists of members national cooking teams. This year's novelty is a tasting of wines from nine top winemakers from various Slovenian wine regions, the tasting will also be accompanied by salty snacks.
