Home trends 2016

The new year is here and of course a whole new range of home trends 2016 or interior trends that will liven up our spaces. Everything from exotic jungle prints to seventies style interiors and quirky ethnic accessories – this year's home trends are fun and bold. Psychedelic colors and an interior full of exotic flair with international influences from South America and the Orient are key guidelines for 2016.

Key trends for the home 2016:

1. Jungle theme in psychedelic, mismatched colors

Expect bold color clashes, vibrant patterns and lots of material mixing. Vegetation motifs will remain, supported this year by psychedelic colors and incompatible color palettes. Animal prints and exotic palm trees will take center stage, accompanied by retro rattan and natural bamboo.

2. The kitschy seventies are back

You will conjure the atmosphere of the seventies with ostrich feathers in vases or with candlesticks. There will also be swivel chairs covered in velvet.

3. Ethnic touch

Bohemian color and pattern build this vibrant look. Think floral patterned pillows and blankets, painted furniture and tribal patterns. You can further enliven the space with some plants such as cacti and succulents.

4. Kitchens in natural color shades

People are usually also inspired by the space in which we live. We want to live in harmony with the environment, so natural color shades and calm colors that can be found in nature or in the urban environment are the ones that dominate kitchens this year. The trend for 2016 is dictated by sophisticated and luxurious gray and taupe colors, light and dark wood, white and black color shades, and there are also metallic shades.

5. The return of rattan

Rattan is making a comeback this year, and you'll find it both indoors and outdoors. Together with the trend of the seventies, it forms a strong retro trend, a trend that filters into the interior from the fashion world. We can expect rattan in furniture, lighting and home accessories, and it comes in interesting 3D shapes and modern angular shapes.

6. A taste for the exotic

This year we will be able to enjoy a little Brazil. The trend will be the Brazilian theme, which brings a lively green color and celebrates exotic animals and plants, such as jungle ones. The color palette is dominated by orange, purple and green, mixed with materials such as bamboo and wood.
One of the more modern trends will also be oriental, where we will add even more style and color to our home with oriental accessories. The sophisticated and glamorous trend includes heavy, dark furniture, rich colors for fabrics and walls, silk curtains and bold lighting.

7. Monochromatic accessories and motifs for the home

World fashion designers such as Valentino, Saint Laurent, Dior and Victoria Beckham are also focusing on black and white motifs in their collections this year. Trends come and go, but the monochromatic look is a timeless trend that will blend beautifully with other 2016 trends.

8. Sophisticated reuse of old objects

The reuse of old objects is becoming more and more sophisticated. This year, we can customize the purchased item by adding more character and personality to it, or find a craftsman or artist to do it for us. Handmade products, furniture and art are on trend, and we're going to hit it big with real raw materials like concrete and weathered wood.

9. Fresh nautical motifs

This year, nautical motifs, motifs of the sea and clouds will be a bit more relaxed and informal. Avoid obvious nautical motifs and instead use pattern and color to create a seaside feel that will work equally well in the countryside, city or seaside. Simple, understated, elegant and utilitarian fabrics are essential for coastal style.

10. Typography one way or another

Typography will decorate our furniture this year in one way or another: on walls, on blinds, on furniture or as printed wall art. Typography can be just one large letter or a series of thematic words that are printed directly on blinds, curtains or other accessories in the home. For greater personalization, we can include photos and texts.
