The Volkswagen T-Cross - the smallest SUV from Volkswagen, which is surprising both in terms of size and feelings - hit Slovenian roads and city streets. We were at the Slovenian presentation.
Volkswagen T-Cross is typical Volkswagen and in all respects. It brings German excellence into a segment city SUVs, where the demand is currently the highest both here and in Europe. But at the same time it sets completely new standards in the field of security, where it is for the first time, most driver assistance systems available as standard, including Front Assist (prevention of surges), Lane Assist (keeping the driving direction), Blind Spot Assist (blind spot detection), etc. At the same time, it brings maximum use of space to the relatively modest measured centimeters and is surprisingly spacious. The designers were inspired by the bigger one To Touareg and copied its striking proportions. This is how a nice design story was created, where of course it is in the foreground personalization, as there is just 12 colors and possible individualization through special color packages: "Schwartz" and "Energetic Orange". At the start of sales, two engines are available: with 70 kW (95 hp) and 85 kW (115 hp), which bear the designation 1.0 TSI. The price is for really good and modern package starts at 15,990 euros!
Interesting and brave in design
Volkswagen spent a considerable amount of time "proceeding" and observing the segment where the most vehicles are sold annually here and in Europe. The class where they reigned until now Seat Arona, Mazda CX-3, Kia Stonic, Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008 and some other less important players, got a new member. And in all probability, he will also be the king of his class "someday". Such as Golf. Also because the designers took care of an imaginative design. The rear seems particularly brave, which deviates greatly from what we are used to from this brand. The latter hides a rather large luggage space, which measures from 385 liters to 455 liters. Although opinions differ on the back, we love it!
The rear bench is longitudinally movable, which allows us to increase the luggage space. With the increased space on the back bench, there is only room for the "youngest" passengers. But the essence of the design approach of the designers was not to find space in the luggage compartment, but they really paid a lot of attention to finding a space inside, where the feelings are really good and could be attributed to a car in a higher class. A good 4 meters and 11 centimeters long T-Cross walks so bravely next to its own 13 centimeters to the bigger brother Volkswagen T-Roc, which concretely breathes down his neck, both in terms of functionality and stature.
Basically a real Volkswagen
Volkswagen gets most things right with almost all of their cars. And so it is with the new one T-Cross, where technically everything is as it should be. In the class of small crossovers he brings “digital meter”, which his younger brother also has Volkswagen Polo. Infotainment system is already familiar, as you can also get it in the much more expensive and larger Passat or all other Volkswagens.
Of course, all possible "information" and "driving" accessories are available, incl with radar cruise control and already with the indispensable automatic transmission. Basically, it is extremely interesting how fast the development is and what each new generation of vehicles brings. If for example T-Roc brought the Front Assist system, the T-Cross only has a good year left at its disposal in addition to the aforementioned practicality all established assistance systems. This is also why they expect the highest safety rating from Volkswagen - 5 stars (NCAP).
Surprisingly agile
At the Slovenian presentation, we were assigned a test vehicle T-Cross with the weakest engine 70 Kw (95 HP), but the latter pleasantly surprised us despite the 5-speed manual gearbox. It's nicely responsive and likes to rev with a typical three-cylinder sound. Also surprising is the very long fourth gear, which nicely extends the fifth so you don't miss the sixth. The car drives extremely well. The position behind the wheel is definitely a class higher. So are the ride quality sensations. The car is also acoustically well sealed, and the sound of the chassis cannot be heard.
On the way from Ljubljana to Izola, despite the test mode of driving, he spent only 6.4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. Which is good information considering the fact that we mostly drove on the highway and that the car was left on several times during the actual photography of the vehicle. Therefore, we are sure that the consumption of most drivers will fall below six liters in normal daily use. This is a figure that is good, if not among the best, for this type of vehicle. The position on the road is also neutral and the relatively small length of the car is not noticeable, for example when driving on the highway, where it perfectly keeps the direction. There is some lateral leaning in the corners, which is appropriate for the class. Nevertheless, the car is predictable and safe throughout and does not push in any direction.
Colorful range of equipment
There are basically three lines of equipment available: T-Cross, Life and Styles. The possibilities for individualization are really huge, as some special packages are also available, with which you can quickly equip your future T-Cross with the accessories that mean the most to you. And since there are really many combinations, you will be able to put together a really interesting one.
The price starts at 15,990 euros and with a few accessories they quickly approach the round twenty. This amount is not small, but considering what you will get in the package, it is quite appropriate.
