When are the sales in 2020 that we can use to save? What are the rights of consumers and what are the duties of traders? Can we return products bought at sales? And how to shop wisely during sales?

Are you interested in when are there sales in 2020 that will save you money? Read on!

Sales are a great opportunity to refresh your wardrobe without breaking the bank. If we're lucky, we can finally afford that product we've been eyeing but thought were too expensive considering we might not actually need it. Shopping at sales is a special pleasure, because we feel like real winners when we have bags full for which we have spent a reasonable amount of money.

Since 2016, there are no longer rules in Slovenia that determine seasonal sales of textile goods and footwear, which for many years commanded retailers to behave uniformly during sales. The Chamber of Commerce no longer specifies when the sales will start and how long they will last. The rules are determined by each business entity itself.

WHEN ARE THE SALES IN 2020?

Considering the years that followed this regulation, we can expect that this year too summer sales 2020 started in mid-June, and winter sales will follow in the first half of January 2021. The period of post-season sales, both in summer and winter, should last approx three weeks and in some places also good month.

When shopping at sales, pay attention to online stores, because there are also sales going on there. It is typical for online stores where you are registered that they will inform you about sales dates through the newsletter, but otherwise, the same rules regarding the conduct of merchants during sales apply to online stores as apply to regular stores.

WHEN ARE THE 2020 SALES: DEALER'S OBLIGATIONS

Regarding labeling and consumer information, the uniform rules set out in the Consumer Protection Act apply (Ur.l. RS no. 98/04-UPB2,126/07,86/09, 78/11, 38/14,19/15).

These are some of the key obligations of retailers in various forms of sales promotion:

  • the merchant must clearly, comprehensibly and unambiguously advertise campaigns, discounts, sales,
  • discounted products must be clearly marked either with notices or on the product label (where the old price is crossed out and the new one written),
  • the goods subject to reduction must have been available to consumers at higher prices earlier; virtual reduction is prohibited (virtual reduction means that the trader first raises the prices of the products and immediately lowers them and announces the reduction),
  • the product or group of products for which the trader reduces the price must be clearly marked and faultless; if it is a product with a defect, this must also be clearly marked.
Traders must clearly mark which goods are on sale
Traders must clearly mark which goods are on sale

CAN I RETURN A PRODUCT PURCHASED ON SALE?

The Consumer Protection Act says yes the merchant is NOT OBLIGED to accept back a product that was purchased on sale, discount or on sale if the product is flawless. However, each trader sets these rules for himself. At major retailers, we can easily return or exchange a product we bought at sales if we find out at home that maybe we don't really need it, or that we actually made a bad and thoughtless purchase. Therefore, each trader decides for himself, according to the specific case and according to the agreement with the customer, whether the return or exchange of the goods is possible.

If the product has an actual defect, the consumer does the right to file a complaint even during sales.

SOME TIPS ON HOW TO SHOP SMARTLY DURING SALES

Buy thoughtfully and targeted
Make a list of things you really need. This will help you not get carried away into aimless and compulsive shopping.

Determine exactly how much money you can spend
Be disciplined and set a clear limit on how much you can spend. This will help you avoid buying things you don't need just because they are cheap.

Don't buy just because it's cheap
If you can't decide whether to buy a product or not, double the price and ask yourself if you would buy it even if it cost that much. If the answer is no, you were misled by the low price and not by a real need or desire to own this product.

Buy the right size product
Don't buy products that are too small or too big with a thought "when I lose weight, gain weight, it will come in handy". Only buy products that you can wear now.

Treat yourself to a quality product
Sales are a great opportunity to add some really quality pieces to your closet that you can't otherwise afford. Check out the range of high-end brands, as prices during sales are mostly within reach of almost everyone.
