The celebration of Carnival itself probably dates back in the pre-Christian era, and its tradition was taken over by the Romans, who in the pre-spring season created several holidays during which they celebrated. The word "pust" itself probably came from the word "mesopust", i.e. from the words meso and postiti se (let go), which would also be a literal translation from the Italian term "carneleva", which means "give up meat". Carnival 2020: carnivals, carnival events and carnivals in Slovenia

Carnival usually starts a week or so before Shrove Tuesday, and the most happenings are there on Carnival Saturday and Sunday. At that time, they walk in traditional carnival processions the most beautiful and interesting carnival masks. It all ends on Shrove Tuesday, when they bury the Shrove. According to the church calendar, this is followed by a 40-day fast that lasts until Easter. Carnival in Cerknica 2020

The carnival in Cerknica, which this year bears the title of Hojladrija, fisherman, begins on February 20, 2020 with the sawing of the grandmother. On Mardi Gras Friday, there will be a Mardi Gras party with musical guests (Pop Design, Night Rules, Pivo in čevapi) from 21:00, but of course it will also be fun on Saturday, when the Mambo Kings and Ensemble Stil will perform at the evening party. The big carnival with popular characters, figurines and visiting masks will take place on Shrove Sunday, exactly at 12:32 p.m. Pust will be buried in Cerknica on Ash Wednesday.
