Who cheats more, men or women? Well, it's generally believed to be men, but new research shows that the gender gap is closing. This is not due to the fact that men have fewer extramarital affairs, but it is said to be related to the fact that women started cheating more often!

Before you react violently (or less violently) to this, we need to ask ourselves some questions about this type of research. For example: Do the numbers on who gets caught cheating match the number of people who cheat? Do the respondents in the questionnaires used by the researchers lie? According to opinion Tammy Nelson, marriage therapist and author of When You Are The One Who Cheats, there's reason to suspect that women might not only do they cheat more often, but they also cover it up more.

"We don't know if, on average, more men or more women are caught cheating. However, women are better at covering up. Women traditionally face harsher punishments for cheating." says Nelson. "They can lose financial support, risk losing their children, and in some countries they could even lose their lives."

Is it true that women cheat more often?

According to the American Institute for Social Research, he is cheating somewhere 20 percent of men and 13 percent of women. Why do men cheat? Well, men are more prone to casual and opportunistic cheating, which plays a major role in why they are easier to get caught. For many men, infidelity is a sign of recklessness. For women, however, cheating is part of a more deliberate plan. The potential consequences of recklessness can be too severe. Partner violence, which one in three women experiences at some point, is often caused by infidelity.

Sex therapist Candice Cooper-Lovett agrees with Nelson that women's ability to conceal infidelity is at least somewhat more flexible. "Several of my patients say that cheating is something that you take with you to the grave, because men do not manage to deal with the infidelity of a woman in the way that women can deal with the infidelity of men, or as they are expected to," explains.

However, it is worth noting that the data suggest that this dynamic may be changing. One of the ongoing online research conducted on the blog Truth About Deception, at the time of writing includes 62,638 women and 32,007 men (results are ongoing and updated daily). 77.3 percent of men report cheating on their spouse/partner, compared to 53.1 percent of women. Of these, 21.6 men say they were suspected of cheating, on the other hand, 40 percent of women suspected cheating. Finally, 39.2 percent of men confirmed that they were caught in the end, while at the same time as many as 48 percent of women were caught cheating. But this is the research data that it is not subject to scientific control.
