Why BMW sells electric cars so well: Germans will fly on electricity in 2025 like Tesla into orbit

BMW sells electric cars well! Why?!

BMW has seen a 26.4% increase in electric vehicle sales this year – and that’s before the EV revolution even really got going with the Neue Klasse platform. What the hell are they doing right? Why is BMW selling electric cars so well?

Why is BMW selling electric cars so well?! If you ever doubted that it would BMW If you've driven the future to electric, then it's time to put down the keys to your diesel three-door and face reality. BMW's first financial results for 2025 are in – and they're filled with a volt of happiness. Electric models jumped 26.4 % compared to last year, with overall sales not far behind (up 3.7 %), and MINI enjoyed its 15 minutes of fame with 9.5 % growth.

Let's take a look at why people have jumped on the electric train in droves – or rather, the i4.

EV Offensive: When Sportiness Meets Electric (and Doesn't Explode)

Let's start with the star of the first quarter - BMW i4That electrified sports sedan, which in the M50 version writes poetry on the asphalt, sold in incredible numbers. 7,125 copies. That is 57 % more like last year and proof that customers like something that looks like a real BMW, drives like a real BMW – and has no exhaust fumes.

Meanwhile, it is also iX, BMW's electric SUV with a space-like look and a price worthy of a space mission, found 3,626 owners – 23.1 % more than the year before. Luxury sedan i7 It has slightly decreased (10.4 %), but hey, for 130 jur and more, only 0.01 % of the population can still afford it – and that includes breakfast.

A little surprising? i5, that “middle child” of the EV family, was sold 15.2 % worse like last year. Maybe it's being run over by its own gray mediocrity? Or are buyers waiting for a refreshed model with the new Neue Klasse battery platform. Hint: it's coming in 2026.

MINI, maxi results

Although it's called MINI, the results are anything but. In Q1 2025, MINI sold almost 7,000 vehicles, which is 9.5 % more than last year. And most of the credit goes to the new MINI Countryman – the biggest MINI yet. An SUV that still smells like go-karting inside, but offers enough space so you don't feel like a sardine with an iPhone.

The MINI Cooper is also returning to form – with two doors, more character than many a TikTok star and a new electric platform slowly creeping onto the market.

What else is BMW missing?

What we've all been waiting for, but hasn't arrived yet. The new BWM iX3, and the fully electrified 3 Series. When (not if) these models join the electric front, BMW's EV sales will explode faster than a YouTube video of a cat and a vacuum cleaner.

BMW's ace up its sleeve? New Class, a new generation of platforms, batteries and design. The first models are coming in 2026 – and they are supposed to be real game-changers. More efficient, more elegant and cheaper to manufacture. Factories in Debrecen and Munich are already preparing the ground.

But wait, German engineering hasn't said its last word yet – the real show is yet to come with the **”Neue Klasse”**, a new generation of BMW e-platforms that sounds like something between a Kraftwerk album and a German science fiction from the 70s. We're talking **30 % more range**, **30 % less charging time**, **up to 50 % lower costs** and – if we're to believe BMW's PR machine – technology that will "finally silence Tesla and break the Chinese EV monopoly". The heart of this story? Gigantic **rundzellen** (yes, round cells, but the German sounds more serious) the size of a Red Bull can – format 4695 and 46120, if you're into technical pornography. These cells are no longer packed in modular boxes like ham in a can, but go directly into the **supporting akkupack**, which is now actually part of the chassis. This is no longer a “battery under the bottom”, this is a structure, this is… drama! And then there is their **Energy Master** – it sounds like a DJ from Berlin, but in reality it is a smart control center that allows 800V charging, energy return to the grid and powering the fridge when camping. If all this is true, the iX3, the first child of this high-voltage romance, will be an electric hero in 2025 BMW-Yes. And if not? Well, at least they still have the M3. It runs on gasoline.

BMW has turned on the electricity – and with full force

BMW is not waiting for Tesla to run them over. On the contrary – they are setting their own rules of the game. With excellent sales in Q1 2025, they are proving that electrification is no longer just an additional option in the configurator, but the main drive of the future.

If these are just the opening chords of the electric symphony from Munich, then we can't help but eagerly await the main act in 2026!
