Gone are the days of having to provide a urine sample at the doctor's office. With Withings U-Scan, you can easily track important health metrics from the comfort of your own home. Urine can tell us a lot about our health, including hydration levels, pregnancy, infections, and even the health of our organs. And now Withings is targeting some of those biomarkers with two different versions of its consumer device, which will be available in Europe in the first half of 2023.
First cartridge, U-Scan Nutri Balance, is designed to track nutritional and metabolic data by measuring ketone and vitamin C levels and testing the pH of your urine. It's a simple and non-invasive way to monitor your body's nutritional balance. Another cartridge, U-Scan Cycle Sync, is made for people who want to better track their menstrual cycles by measuring LH or luteinizing hormone waves. LH peaks when ovulation is just around the corner and fertility is likely to be highest, urine pH is also measured.
Z Withings U-Scan you can have all this information at your fingertips. The device works best if you attach it to the front of the toilet bowl (which means people who normally pee standing up will have to sit down too, or at least get creative). Urine flows into a small collection port, which the company says can distinguish between urine and an external liquid, such as toilet water. The thermal sensor detects the presence of urine and moves to the test unit. Once the analysis is complete, the waste is released from the device and is flushed away.
The results will be sent to your phone via Wi-Fi, and you can read your health insights daily in the Withings Health Mate app. The device contains a cartridge filled with test strips that will last you about three months. The U-Scan can distinguish your "stream" from visitors because the sensor can differentiate based on "distance and speed of the stream," Withings said.
This cutting-edge technology is not only an invention, but an innovation in the field of healthcare, it was chosen as one of the best products CES 2023. With U-Scan, you can easily monitor your health and be proactive about your well-being. The U-Scan Nutri Balance or Cycle Sync cartridges will be available in Europe for €500 (about US$527) in the first half of 2023, with plans for US availability following US Food and Drug Administration approval.
