World Jazz Day 2016 is coming! Five years ago, the UN and UNESCO declared April 30 as International Jazz Day. With this, the organization highlighted the musical genre and its role in connecting people in all parts of the world.
It was in 2011 Unesco on the initiative of the legendary jazz composer and pianist Herbie Hancock at the general assembly set April 30 for International Jazz Day. With it, he wanted to draw attention to jazz as an educational tool, a powerful element in spreading peace, dialogue and tolerance around the world. The year after that, the General Assembly of the United Nations also added it to its calendar.
"Jazz represents creativity and freedom, but it is also characterized by diversity. It appears in countless versions. Each style reflects a colorful array of local, national and regional influences. This kind of music is synonymous with dialogue, respect for human rights and the dignity of women and men," said Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO.
