The Cerkno Jazz Festival 2020 will take place between September 17 and 19 in the parking lot at Stara ETI, in accordance with the strict health measures of the National Institute of Public Health.
Program 25th edition of the festival Jazz Cerkno in terms of the number of performing bands and their quality, it does not deviate in any way from previous years... You will be able to hear it ten international and Slovenian bands, of which all six international bands will play their premiere concert in Slovenia in Cerkno! As is the custom in Cerkno, the program will include modern jazz and other inventive music that confronts jazz with other genres, from avant-garde classics through American folk and blues to electronica and noise. In addition to the main program, the organizers have prepared a rich accompanying program, which will include a photography exhibition, additional concerts, workshops and a round table.
As the festival celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, it's fitting that it kicks off in style. They will take care of that RTV Slovenija Big Band and Kristijan Krajnčan or DrummingCellist, as is the title of Krajnčan's project. In the continuation of the first day of the festival, you will also be able to hear the premiere Slovenian performance of the Slovenian-Italian band Ombak Trio, and another international trio will premiere at the festival - Mopcut, which brings together musicians from the USA, Austria and France.
Saturday is traditionally the richest in terms of content, as there will be a bunch of events from the accompanying program. There will be no concerts in the Music School this year, the band will perform Tobija Hudnik Equilibrium as Insta_bility within the framework of the Young Researchers III program. will be broadcast via the festival's YouTube and Facebook channels. In front of the Cerkno hotel, a round table or sub-table of Nova Muske will be held on Saturday under the title Live music during corona. It will be on display in the Gabrijel bar during the festival and until December 31 exhibition by Nada Žgank, the official photographer of the festival for many years, who will present a selection of photos from past editions of the festival. During the accompanying events, he will round off Dario Cortese with his traditional workshop Wild food in the Jazz Age.
The finale of this year's anniversary edition of the festival follows on Saturday evening. It will start with playing a video of a Slovenian band Container Doxa, which connects jazz with electronics, improvisation and visual art. The Austrian-American duo will make their first broadcast appearance in Slovenia Ingrid Schmoliner / Hamid Drake, which will be followed by a concert by an international band Coma Saxo 4. The local septet will provide the grand finale with a percussive mix of old and new jazz, African bands and improvisation. Haughty!, in which some of the most prominent protagonists of the Slovenian jazz and improv scene play.
Hotel Cerkno has prepared extremely affordable Jazz packages for visitors, and tickets are already on sale. The organizers additionally point out that the number of tickets is very limited and that the seating order will apply at the venue.
