Xiaomi has launched the Mi Mix Fold, the company's first commercial foldable phone. In contrast to the company's previous concepts, the Mi Mix Fold is a fairly conventional foldable phone that uses a large display screen on the inside, combined with a small secondary display on the outside, just like some of its competitors Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold and Huawei's Mate X2.
The problem with folds is definitely the price of fire screen technology, where the key is the fold or hinge that enables the latter. Xiaomi has developed a very special patent here, which should make this kind of phone extremely durable.
The internal display is an 8.01-inch OLED 4:3 display with a resolution of 2480 x 1860, a standard screen brightness of 600 nits and support for Dolby Vision HDR. Xiaomi says the screen can withstand being folded 200,000 times. The external screen is 6.52 inches with a refresh rate of 90Hz. Xiaomi also promises a lot regarding the audio capabilities of the Mi Mix Fold, as it has as many as four Harman Kardon speakers, enabling so-called 3D panoramic sound.
The heart of the phone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, which works with 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB of storage space. The battery capacity is 5,020 mAh and Xiaomi says that 67W fast charging should allow the battery to be fully charged in just 37 minutes.
Sales of the Mi Mix Fold will start in China on April 16. The entry price for the model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space will be around 1,500 euros. Which is actually a pittance for a phone with this kind of design and specs. And it is slowly heralding a possible new wave of phones that will rule the world.
