The 2024 Honda Prologue EV is Honda's first attempt to get serious in the electric car segment with a family SUV with 400 kilometers of real-world range and an 85 kWh battery - an official WLTP of 482.8 km (300 miles). Did you ever think that Honda, a brand that has been making hybrid cars since the late 1990s, would take this long to go fully electrified? Well, better late than never! Introducing Honda's first serious attempt at an electric vehicle - the 2024 Prologue. And if you think this is just another electric car, get ready for a surprise! it's an interestingly good first effort from a manufacturer that has always made great cars.

Honda Prologue, due next year, is a Honda Passport-sized crossover with a target range of 482.8 km (300 miles). It is powered by a capacity battery 85.0 kilowatt hours, which should give the most efficient versions of the Prolog a range of 482.8k miles. It will be available in single- and dual-engine versions. So also with 4×4 drive. The all-wheel drive version boasts 288 horsepower (214 kW) and 333 pound-feet (451 Nm) of torque. We think it's a sweet little car and just right for this type of car.

2024 Honda Prologue EV: A design that speaks to the future!

Modern design with a neo-rugged style? Sounds like a title for a sci-fi movie, doesn't it? The design team at Honda's design studio in Los Angeles apparently spent too much time in virtual reality (VR) to create a design that is so "neo-robust". Maybe they thought Prologue would be driving on post-apocalyptic roads? Nevertheless, the car is low, wide and has an elegant silhouette. And if you thought 21-inch wheels were overkill, remember that this is the largest wheel ever offered on a Honda. Perhaps it is ideal for those who want to dominate traffic jams?

Honda has set a high bar with its Prolog charging solutions. From home charging stations to a network of express charging stations across North America, charging is now easier than ordering coffee to go!

The 2024 Honda Prologue EV is so spacious you could host a small party inside. It has the longest wheelbase in its class (309.6 cm). SUV placed next to the Passport. And if you thought the CR-V was big, the Prologue is 20.3cm longer and 12.7cm wider. Maybe it's Honda's way of saying, “Look at me, I'm growing!”

Engineers went to great lengths to make the Prologue aerodynamic, presumably so it could get to the nearest coffee shop faster and flaunt its new design. The design of the wheels and the spoiler in question has also been carefully planned to reduce air resistance. Perhaps this is Honda's way of saying, "We know how aerodynamics work!"

To further emphasize its commitment to electric vehicles, the Prologue gets a newly designed Honda name badge in a stylized font. Plus, in order not to be too modest, they added the label e: series. And if that's not enough, it's available in seven colors, including North Shore Pearl, which is inspired by the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe, California. Because why settle for plain white when you can have a color that sounds like an expensive perfume?

2024 Honda Prologue EV: Interior like an Apple store

The Prologue is not just a car, it's like a smartphone on four wheels. Its interior is so sporty and modern that you might think you've entered the latest Apple Store. With big buttons and switches, obviously designed for those of us who always lost the remote control in the sofa.

But wait, that's not all! The Prologue boasts an infotainment system so large you might need a map to find it. And if you thought the 11-inch screen was impressive, wait until you see how it fits inside an interior so spacious it could host a small party.

And if you've ever wished your car had room for two phones because one is clearly not enough, Prologue is here with the solution. Not only does it have room for two phones, it also has room for a 946ml water bottle. Because, who doesn't need that much hydration while riding?

Speaking of space, the Prologue offers 713 liters (25.2 cubic feet) of luggage space with the rear seats up and 1,633 liters (57.7 cubic feet) with the seats down. Decent. Real potential for a family carriage.

The EX variant boasts black and charcoal or charcoal and light gray cloth with colored stitching, while the Elite offers perforated leather seats. And if you're wondering what "perforated" means, it means the seats are perforated, like your old leather jacket from the 80s.

So if you want a car that is technically advanced but still has a sense of humor, the Prologue is the right choice for you. Just don't forget the USB charging cable!

A filling philosophy that will prove itself in practice

Honda clearly wants charging up the Prolog to be easier than finding a show on Netflix. Prolog buyers can choose between three charging packages that are included in the purchase of the car. And no, it's not like choosing between coffee, tea or water on a plane.

They offer a home charging station, a portable charging kit or, if you're really adventurous, a $750 public charging credit. Honda Home Electrification (HHE) is like Tinder for charging stations – connecting you with local installers and helping you find the right home charging solution.

And if that's not enough, Honda has teamed up with six major automakers to create the largest brand-neutral charging network in North America (1,300 charging stations). So if you thought finding a charging station was harder than finding a parking space in the city center, you're wrong.

When it comes to fast charging, it seems that Honda may have rested on its laurels a bit. With a DC charging speed of 155 kW, the Prologue is like a sprinter running a 90-meter sprint, while competitors such as the ID.4 and Ioniq 5 run a 100-meter sprint with the wind at their backs. And let's not get started on the Blazer EV and Cadillac Lyriq, which charge like pre-exam students at 195kW.

But don't worry, Honda has an ace up its sleeve for Prolog owners! They offer three different charging options. The first is a home charger with a power of 11.5 kW, which is like your personal barista who makes you coffee every morning. The other is a 7.6kW portable charger that's like your portable coffee shop on the go. And for those who are always on the go and don't have time to charge at home, there's a $750 charge credit. It's like ordering takeaway coffee, but for your car.

And for those always on their phone, the HondaLink® Smartphone App gives Prolog owners easy access to public charging networks. Because why use multiple apps when you can do it all with one?

Availability and Pricing - 2024 Honda Prologue EV

Honda clearly wants to become the "green queen" of the automotive industry, as it aims to sell 100% zero-emission vehicles by 2040. Prologue? This is just the beginning of this ecological romance. By 2025, the auto giant will introduce another EV based on their own “e:Architecture” platform. Who knows, it might even be assembled at their new EV Hub factory in Marysville, Ohio. Maybe they'll also have an organic cafe and dawn yoga?

The prices for the EU are not yet known, but the car will be priced alongside the ID.4 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. So with prices somewhere from 45,000 euros, or 40,000 USD.
