Opening the refrigerator and finding old leftovers in it is certainly one of the most disgusting feelings. But it doesn't have to be that way. Here are 6 ways you can reuse food scraps, saving you both food and money.

1. Turn overripe fruit into fresh smoothies

After a few days, the fruit may no longer look attractive, but it is just as nutritious and delicious as fresh fruit. Therefore, do not throw it away, but freeze it and use it for a smoothie, which you can have as a healthy snack or breakfast on the go.

2. Freeze herbs for later use

Did it turn out that you only need a spoonful of parsley instead of the whole bunch that you are now dying for? Next time herbs as soon as possible freeze it in an ice cube tray and add a little more of olive oil. Then simply place the herb cube in the pan where you are preparing the meal and wait for the ice to melt.

3. Use the hardened bread for toasts, breadcrumbs or add it to salads

Even old bread can get a new chance. You can use it for toasted bread, which you will serve with eggs, bacon or vegetables, or you can grind it in bread crumbs. One option is to cut the bread from the previous day into cubes, which you then add salads. There is no reason for old bread to end up in the trash, unless of course you find mold on it, so it should be thoroughly inspected before use.
