Flying cars have always stirred the human imagination, and already in 2017, our wildest dreams can turn into reality. At least that's what the European aviation giant Airbus predicts, which plans to build a prototype of an autonomous flying car later this year.

Airbus, the European aircraft manufacturer and largest producer of commercial helicopters, wants more in 2017 make the first kilometers in the air with their autonomous flying car, which in the future they expect to be one of the forms of public transport. They've backed up their efforts with just sketches for now, and the car is a mixed bag classic car and ultralight aircraft. For the Vahana project were tasked with the newly established division Urban Air Mobility.

At Airbus, they see this type of transport as a kind of taxi service or vehicle sharing (it would be accessed through a mobile app, which is already common practice in sharing), which would be an integral part of public transport. "A hundred years ago, we moved mobility or public transport underground, now technology allows us to go higher," explains the Airbus president Tom Enders. "If you use the air and the sky, you don't need billions to build new bridges, roads and tracks. Such traffic will also clean the atmosphere in big cities."
