Audi A6 e-tron: Is this the new Audi A6?

Photo: Audi

Audi presented the Audi A6 e-tron in a concept edition at the Shanghai Motor Show, thus announcing the arrival of new electric models. Even in the extremely important premium segment of business sedans, where electricity is becoming a reality and the present.

Audi A6 concept e-tron measures 4.96m long, 1.96m wide and 1.44m high. Very similar to classic Audi A6. The novelty is that it uses the PPE platform (Premium Platform Electric), which will be used by the new one in the future in addition to this model Q5 and Q6, of course fully electric drives. The platform was developed with Porsche, so it will be used by the new Macan, and the first production model will be presented on the market in about a year.

The first impressions are that Audi will not significantly change the concept and that this time we are looking into the future with this study. So, the new A6 can be seen here, although it will be with slight changes, because the Sportback shown has design features and a five-door architecture, so it may even be closer to the new A7 model.

The biggest innovations in Audi's design language are further improvements in the area of aerodynamics. That's how the coefficient is (cW = 0.22), which is definitely appropriate for an electrical representative. The design is interesting and dynamic with lots of innovations. The new generation of Digital Matrix LED lights surprises with their resolution, as it is so good that the spotlights can project a movie or video game on the wall if necessary. Also special are the new generation OLED rear lights with countless options for customizing the graphics.

Under the "not much" hood, a battery with capacity is hidden in the middle of the vehicle 100 kWh and brings 800-volt technology – known from the Porsche Taycan. Just like Audi e-tron GT it is therefore possible to charge the batteries of the Audi Audi A6 e-tron in a very short time at fast charging stations, even with a power of up to 270 kW. 10 minutes of charging also means a range of 300 km, while charging from 5 to 80% takes exactly 25 minutes. The range of the concept is 700 km. The two electric motors produce up to 350 kW (469 horses) and 800 Nm, which in combination with the quattro drive means superior performance. The entry-level single-engine model will be able to reach 100 km/h in less than 7 seconds.

While the Porsche model on the platform PPE (Macan) will not be produced in China, Audi's e-tron models will also come from China, namely from the FAW factory. As a reminder, the PPE platform will be used for many production models, while exclusives such as the Audi e-tron GT and the Porsche Taycan will use the J1 platform.
