Baking Soda: 30 Great Uses

Baking soda is one of the most interesting and versatile home remedies. It will help you in cooking, cleaning, cosmetics and many other things. Here are the best (and tried and tested!) suggestions.

Using baking soda in the kitchen

1. Baking soda softens bread and pastries. When baking bread and pastries, add a pinch of up to half a teaspoon of baking soda to the dry ingredients. The treats will be fluffier and softer. Do not overdo it with baking soda when baking, because it has a characteristic taste that many people do not like.
2. Baking soda is an excellent cleaner for shelves, kitchen surfaces and microwave ovens. Make a paste of baking soda and lemon and use it to scrub greasy surfaces and kitchen counters. Leave it on for a few minutes, then just wipe it off.

3. Clean a greasy oven with baking soda. First, heat the oven to 90 degrees Celsius and place a pan with 1.5 liters of water in it. Leave it for an hour and wipe off the main dirt. Then mix two packets of soda, 5 tablespoons of alcohol vinegar and one lemon. Coat the oven with this and let stand for 5 minutes. After five minutes, simply wipe the oven with a sponge and it will shine like new.
4. Baking soda is an excellent helper when washing dishes by hand. Add 2 teaspoons of baking soda to the dishwashing water and you will get rid of greasy stains more easily. You can also sprinkle baking soda on a sponge to make scrubbing greasy dishes easier.
5. Use baking soda to deodorize the bad smell of the sponge. If you would like to get rid of the bad smell of a sponge, soak it in warm water to which you have added baking soda and wash it thoroughly. For a greater effect, put the sponge and the bowl of water in the microwave for a few minutes.
6. Clean the sink with baking soda. Coffee likes to leave a mark on the container. Mix 2 teaspoons of baking soda and a deciliter of water, pour it into the jezva and let it stand overnight. Rub it the next day and it will shine like new. You can do the same with cutlery.
7. Use baking soda to clean pesticides from fruits and vegetables. You do this by soaking them in water to which you have added baking soda. Rinse off.
