Volkswagen has been producing exclusive motorhomes under the California brand for decades. And based on the success of the latter, he has now expanded his offer with a smaller Caddy. Converting such a small van into a motorhome was a real challenge, which Volkswagen did with distinction.
Motorhome manufacturer Westphalia has been turning Volkswagen van models into motorhomes since the 1970s. But when it is Daimlar bought Westfalia in 2001, he Volkswagen decided to use his knowledge to develop his own motorhomes.

Due to its popularity, VW has decided to expand its range in recent years. First with the model Grand California, which was based on the big Crafter, and now the smallest version has arrived - Caddy California.
Vans this small are rarely used as a base for motorhomes, and Volkswagen faced a number of challenges in its design. Of course, complete comfort was not possible, but Caddy California still surprise everyone with it. This motorhome has such a folding bed of 198 x 107 cm, which is very compact, but due to the special patented mattresses and pocket springs provide the same comfort as beds in larger California models. The bed is not part of the second row of seats, so you can remove them before you start your journey to get more space.
Caddy California also has small kitchen. It is attached to the left side of the cargo area under the bed and can be pulled back when the rear door is open. That's why the back door serves here as protection from the weather during the actual cooking. The mini kitchen consists of two pull-out parts. One gas hob is installed in the upper part, and additionally there is a wind protection and a practical shelf. The pull-out lower part contains a drawer for cutlery and additional space for cooking utensils.
Caddy California it can also have a large panoramic roof for an additional fee. At night, the 1.4 m2 glass roof can be opened for stargazing, while during the day it provides plenty of light inside. Ventilation openings with integrated protection against insects, an LED lighting system, two chairs and a camping table are also available. For those who don't have enough space inside, there is also a modular tent system that can be attached to this motorhome. These tents can also be used separately.
The Caddy California is based on a new generation Caddy, a car that can have digital instruments, a 10-inch touchscreen and 19 driver assistance systems. Two TDI engines are available, the weaker one has modest 75 hp and stronger 122 hp. Volkswagen will also offer all-wheel drive, making the California an ideal vehicle for adventurers.
