You and your partner can agree on many things, but when it's time to rest, it often happens that the sleeping routines are not the most coordinated. This is completely understandable, as people's daily sleep needs vary. But there are also supposed to be specific differences between how men and women sleep.
Martha Cortes, which does specializes in the treatment of sleep-disordered breathing, is for PureWoW said, that these are four major biological differences in the way ladies and lads sleep.
1. Women need more sleep.
Women are generally more adept at multitasking than men. All this brain power means that women need more sleep in order for the brain to recover from all the tasks, explains Dr. Cortes. How much more? About 20 minutes.
2. Women prefer to go to bed early.
Women tend to wake up earlier, and this is due to a difference in the circadian rhythm, which is the 24-hour internal clock that runs in the background of the brain. Women have cycles that are on average six minutes shorter. Because of this six-minute difference, women go to bed earlier and wake up earlier.
3. Insomnia is more common in women
Sleep disorders are more common in women. Men, however, are considered to have sleep apnea more often than women.
4. Women have deeper sleep
Women need more sleep, but that sleep is usually more productive. V studies, conducted at the Penn State College of Medicine, found that women without sleep disorders sleep objectively better in old age than men, and young women's sleep is more resistant to external stressors.
