Honda Civic Type R: the last dance of wild octane

Photo: Honda

With the new Civic Type R, Honda says goodbye to the wild styling of its predecessor, largely eliminating the fake air vents and ultra-aggressive design. This is both good news and bad news, as some will appreciate the significantly more subdued appearance, while others would prefer to see the aggressive form of the FK8 model badge preserved and developed into something new. Relatively extravagant and wild. Even when equipped with the sporty Honda Access upgrades, the facelifted Honda Civic Type R still looks relatively tame compared to its wild predecessor.

The Civic Type R generation was presented right at the Fuji racetrack during the Super GT 2022 championship. They chose Sonic Gray Pearl as the "presentation color". But the hot hatchback in the pictures had a huge “Honda Access” carbon fiber rear spoiler, and the side mirror caps were painted red.

Despite the public presentation of the Honda Civic Type R, Honda still hasn't officially revealed the technical specifications. Reports from the domestic market claim that the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces an extra 10bhp and 20Nm of torque over the model it replaces. Thus, the drive transfers 326 horses (243 kilowatts) and 420 newton meters of torque to the asphalt. The 2022 Honda Civic Type R will be sold exclusively as a five-door hatchback with front-wheel drive and a manual transmission. Full details will be revealed closer to launch this fall, but we don't expect the first European deliveries until early 2023.
