How to deal with holiday sins

The holiday season is approaching, and with it the days of celebrations with more abundant food, late dinners, increased consumption of alcohol, sweets, fatty, fast food... We are all quietly looking forward to evening get-togethers, good food and plenty of good cheer. However, when we overdo it with unhealthy food and lack of sleep and physical activity, our body can quickly react and our good mood turns into malaise, fatigue, the quality of our skin, hair,...

Of course, holidays and evening gatherings are not an excuse for an unhealthy diet and an unhealthy lifestyle, but if we indulge in such minor sins from time to time, we can help ourselves with some simple solutions to better well-being and health, which as an expert in healthy eating in Sauna club Birza I also often advise my clients.

Let's fill our "pantry" with fresh fruits and vegetables

We buy apples, lemons, grapefruits, oranges, lemons, tangerines, persimmons, pears, kiwis, cucumbers, zucchini, ginger, green leafy vegetables, beetroot, kale, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, herbs, spices,... Fresh fruits and vegetables of all kinds colors should always be available and the basis of our menu, and even fruits and vegetables are the first thing when we want to fill our body with new energy and reduce the negative effects of unhealthy evenings/days (acidification of the body, dehydration, burdened liver and kidneys,...). It provides us with a whole range of vitamins and minerals, antioxidants and other protective substances that are absolutely necessary to strengthen our immune system and overall health. Due to the high content of dietary fiber and nutrients, fruits and vegetables also stimulate metabolic and digestive processes.

IDEA: For breakfast, we treat ourselves to a cup of fruit from each group, e.g. sweet fruits such as persimmons, kiwis, bananas or citrus fruits such as tangerines, oranges, grapefruits,..., for a snack an apple with cinnamon and lemon juice, and for lunch and dinner vegetables - stewed, grilled, fresh green leafy vegetables that can add more easily digestible grains such as millet and buckwheat porridge or legumes soaked overnight such as e.g. lentils, chickpeas, beans,... Salads can be seasoned with cold-pressed oils, various spices can be added to them, which have protective effects on health and stimulate metabolic and digestive processes, and can also be enriched with nuts, seeds, avocado, tofu,...

Let's avoid…

To restore the balance in our organism, I recommend that you prepare your meals from the freshest possible ingredients and avoid the following foods:

  • wheat, wheat white, mixed or black bread, dishes (pasta, gnocchi,...) made from wheat flour, refined leavened dough
  • white rice
  • bakery products
  • meat, meat products and eggs
  • to all fried foods
  • fast food
  • prepackaged products (biscuits, crackers, sweets, pâtés, sauces,...)
  • hydrogenated fats (margarine, bakery products,...)
  • energy drinks, caffeine, carbonated drinks, sweetened drinks
  • salt, artificial sweeteners and sugar.

Let's prepare a drink rich in vitamins and minerals

A drink rich in vitamins and minerals.
A drink rich in vitamins and minerals.

A refreshing drink made from lemon, cucumber and ginger that cleanses the body, soothes heartburn, strengthens the immune system, regulates digestion and fills us with energy. Drink the drink during the day, preferably on an empty stomach or between individual meals and before meals, but not during or immediately after a meal, as this slows down digestion.

Ingridients:

  • Juice of 1 lemon (oranges and grapefruits if desired)
  • ¼ cucumber
  • 2 cm of grated ginger
  • 1.5 l of lukewarm water

Let's start the day a little differently

For those of you who can't start the day without coffee, you can enjoy this pleasant ritual a little differently, with cereal coffee. It is caffeine-free, has an excellent aroma and contains many healthy ingredients such as chicory, barley, individual higher-quality grain coffees, as well as acorns and figs. But if you want your morning dose of caffeine, try green tea, which, as a powerful antioxidant and metabolism booster, is also a great start to the day.

And last but not least: drink enough water throughout the day

During the phase of detoxification and rehydration of the organism, drinking at least two liters of water during the day is essential. It helps in cleaning toxins, in kidney and liver function, as well as in digestive and metabolic processes and therefore, among other things, prevents constipation. Last but not least, our skin will also "breathe" more easily and become more radiant.
