American Assassin is a tense action thriller by Michael Cuesta based on Vince Flynn's 2010 bestseller of the same name, in which we follow a CIA recruit who wants to avenge the death of his girlfriend, who was shot by terrorists.
In the movie American Assassin we follow the American one a cold war veteran and now CIA secret agent Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton; Birdman or an unexpected form of ignorance, Batman, In the spotlight), in charge of recruiting agents for covert operations, which from CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan; Masters of Illusion 2, Alien vs. Predator, The Battle of Time) gets the "custody" of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O'Brien; Labyrinth, Deepwater Horizon, The Intern), marked by the personal tragedy of a young but motivated young man (terrorists his fiancee is killed while on vacation in an exotic location), who wants to avenge her death.
Together they observe the appearance random terrorist attacks on soldiers and civilians and discover a pattern in the process. This leads them to a deadly Turkish agent (Shiva Negar), which brings them closer to the mysterious agent (Taylor Kitsch; John Carter, Savages, BATTLESHIP), who wants to ignite a world war in the Middle East.
