Movie Underworld: Blood Wars (2017)

Kate Beckinsale returns as the fatal vampire Selena in the new installment of the Underworld film franchise, Underworld: Blood Wars. It is the fifth film in the series, coming five years after the last film Underworld: Awakening (2012). In total, the films grossed $458.2 million for Screen Gems on a budget of $177 million, so it stands to reason that the war between vampires and werewolves is far from over. This installment was initially intended to be a reboot of the franchise and without the indestructible Beckinsale, who perseveres as an action heroine much like Milla Jovovich as Alice in the Invisible Evil films.

Underworld: Blood Wars is an action-fantasy horror film created under the direction of the director Anne Foerster (Criminal Minds). It is a continuation of the fourth part with the title Underworld: Awakening of 2012. In addition Kate Beckinsale, who slipped into Selena's leather outfit for the fifth time, also appear in the film Theo James as Selene's ally (Forked), Tobias Menzies as Marius the Werewolf Leader (Game of Thrones), Trent Garrett, Lara Pulver, Clementine Nicholson, Bradley James and Charles Dance as Selena's father (Game of Thrones).

Instead of leather this time, a fur coat.
Instead of leather this time, a fur coat.

In the continuation of the popular franchise about the eternal war between vampires and werewolves (what else is new?) they all are eager for Selene's blood, as this is supposed to be the key to victory (with it, werewolves are supposed to become invisible). Sound familiar? In the first part of Underworld, they wanted for the same reason the blood of Michael Corvin, in order to create a powerful hybrid with it. Selena's fashion style hasn't changed much since the franchise took root in 2003, though this time black leather coat replaces the white fur coat. A trophy? Perhaps made from a werewolf? Also cold and dark tone of the film didn't go away, so the franchise has a female director for the first time, which is Underworld: Blood Wars directorial debut.
