BMW started writing the history of the 5 series way back in 1972. And since then it has been considered the German sedan that is chosen by slightly more dynamic businessmen. This time, the radical renovation of the last generation (2016) is expected after four years, but it is much more thorough and not just cosmetic. Also because of the European emissions directive, which can be a big challenge for slightly more dynamic car brands.
BMW realizes that in in recent years fell asleep on the wings of old glory. Program I, which was a harbinger of new times a decade ago, did not produce a high-volume electric car that the masses would fall in love with. Basically, they have not moved from a standstill in electrification. However, it is extremely illogical to announce the suspension or termination of the story with the BMW i3, which has become a fixture and an extraordinary success in the urban centers of the world. And it is precisely in our eyes that it is the most iconic BMW this instant. That's why it's so specific renovation of the new 5 series we look at it as a remedial exam of the Bavarian giant. The latter is no longer the most dominant in sales numbers among the holy trinity, i.e. compared to Audi A6 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. All three are quite settled and sell around 6,000 units a month in Europe.
This renovation is therefore in a way not only "exterior facelift, rather, it goes to the field hybridization of powertrains. All powertrains are hybridized (legislation). The range of plug-in hybrids thus expanded to as many as five models. BMW eDrive technology of the latest generation is now also available for the BMW 5 Series Touring. The BMW 530e Touring, the BMW 530e xDrive Touring and the BMW 545e xDrive sedan with an in-line six-cylinder internal combustion engine will be available from this fall. The new BMW eDrive Zone function, which is standard on all plug-in hybrid models, automatically switches to fully electric mode when entering “green zones”. Extremely low "combined" fuel consumption is promised, from 2.1 liters, which will somehow be science fiction in practice. But the numbers on paper are still impressive. For the time being, you can equip the BMW 5 Series with a maximum of 530 horses in the M550i version.
Every eye has its own "painter"
For the last generation of the 5 series, we can say that it was not very expressive. That's why it is Reexamination in the field of design welcome. At the front, connoisseurs will immediately notice the newly designed BMW kidney grilles, which are now wider and higher, and new LED headlights with slimmer design accents. The front part has been changed so much, with elements on the front bumper that are completely different, that you will immediately know that it is "new". At the rear, the new ones have also been significantly modified 3D-sculpted rear lights. All model variants are now available with trapezoidal tailpipes. As a whole, the 5 series is now a bit more dynamic, which definitely suits the BMW brand. About the same as current series 3, which, despite its really good design, represents a kind of exoticism on Slovenian roads. But for that right look, you will definitely need to go for the package with the M label, which gives every BMW the right character. Of course in combination with at least 19' rims. The latter are also new and no longer so restrained in design.
Upgrading technologies
Four years are light years in the field of "infomatic" technologies. Just imagine carrying a 4 year old phone in your pocket. The feeling would be that it is really old. And so series 5 it gets a significantly updated infotainment system, which is joined by an updated driver assistance system. New driver assistance systems and expanded functions pave the way to automated driving: the lane departure warning, which is part of the optional Driving Assistant system, now also has a lane return function; new option system Driving Assistant The Professional now includes active navigation with lane change assistant, automatic lane departure and intersection warning with city braking function. 3D visualization of the surroundings shows traffic conditions and possible interventions of driver assistance systems on the digital instrument panel. The "Remote Software Upgrade" in the new version is also interesting BMW 5 Series, which always updates automatically for updates such as the expansion of functions of driver assistance systems. Certain extensions and functionalities can also be added subsequently (we have already seen this with the new VW Golf).
Correct & specific
With the "facelift" of the current generation BMW didn't skimp. Logical, because this car represents the basic cornerstone of the brand. And future buyers who have been "complaining" in recent years will not save money either, because new BMWs really aren't cheap. We assume that the five with all "total discounts" will start selling for around 45,000 euros. This will mainly depend on the bargaining ability of the buyer. Namely initial value according to the price list it is for the basic model 53,200 euros. But it's also good to jump on the good old one"car Net” and check what the sellers are offering. Some are dreams, some are reality.
