Hyundai has unveiled the seventh generation of the Grandeur, a full-size sedan that aims to compete with the luxury brand's Genesis lineup. The new Grandeur boasts a spacious interior, advanced technology features and a range of powertrain options that make it a serious contender in the luxury car market.

Hyundai Grandeur, also known as the Azera in other markets, has always been known for its spacious interior and comfortable ride. But with the seventh-generation model, the automaker is taking things up a notch by introducing a new luxury trim level, called Calligraphy. This new trim level, which is only available in South Korea, is designed to compete with the top-of-the-range Genesis range and is available in the “Black Ink“, featuring everything in black inside and out.

The new Grandeur is larger than ever, measuring 5,035 millimeters (198.2 in) in length, 1,880 mm (74 in) in width and 1,460 mm (57.5 in) in height, with a long wheelbase of 2,895 mm (114 in ). Depending on the equipment level, the size of the wheels can vary from 18 to 20 inches. Buyers can choose from three different powertrains, starting with a four-cylinder 2.5-liter engine that develops 195 hp and 248 Nm (183 lb-ft) sent to the front wheels. The larger 3.5-liter V6 is good for the good ones 296 hp and 359 Nm (265 lb-ft) delivered with the optional all-wheel drive system. Alternatively, the front-wheel-drive LPG 3.5 model runs on LPG and has rated power 237 hp and 314 Nm (232 lb-ft).

The Hyundai 2023 Grandeur in South Korea is offered in Premium, Exclusive and Calligraphy trim levels, with prices varying up to 46,900,000 won. At current exchange rates this works out to a surprisingly low 30,600 $ to 38.000 $. Customers have the option to add a range of features including a panoramic sunroof, HTRAC, electronically controlled suspension and the High-Tech package. Even with all the boxes ticked, a fully loaded Hyundai Grandeur Calligraphy Black Ink costs roughly the same domestically as a base Genesis G80 (45,000 $).

The new Hyundai Grandeur is a serious contender in the luxury car market, offering a spacious and comfortable ride, advanced technological features and a range of drive options. With its new level of equipment Calligraphy gives Hyundai a strong statement that it is able to compete with the luxury range of its own Genesis brand.
