The new Mercedes-Benz G is becoming electric and a prototype, but the new Mercedes-Benz EQG has already proven its value with an appearance at the G-Class Experience Center in Graz, Austria. Get ready for an off-road revolution with the upcoming Mercedes 2024 EQG.

Cult  Mercedes-Benz Mr, long known for its fuel-guzzling internal combustion engines, will undergo a powerful electric makeover. The all-electric new Mercedes-Benz EQG is designed for release in 2024, but there is still a lot of testing to be done before it hits the market. A recent video from a popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything shows the prototype EQG, showing off its power at the G-Class Experience Center in Graz, Austria, where the ICE-powered off-roader has been in production since 1979.

With a quad-motor setup, the early prototype EQG flexes its off-road muscles by effortlessly climbing stairs, navigating rocks and performing turns (aka G Turns). The vehicle's electric motor even allows it to climb a steep slope in reverse, which emphasizes the immediate responsiveness and power of its electric drive.

While retaining the familiar boxy design of the G-Class, it has new ones Mercedes-Benz EQG also subtle aerodynamic improvements such as air curtains in the rear wheel arches. Without the internal combustion engine for cooling, the EQG has a faux grille in line with other EQ models. Installing the battery pack results in a flat chassis for better airflow.

Although it is a Mercedes kept quiet about the EQG technical specifications, the video presenter confirms that he would for the drive 3,000 kilograms (6,600 lb) heavy vehicle, a single electric motor was enough. For context, the AMG G63 weighs around 2,500 kilograms (5,550 pounds) with its robust V8 engine.

The EQG's electric equivalent of low range mode and its ability to climb hills without using the gas pedal further prove its off-road capabilities. It's important to note that while the electric G-Class is poised to make a significant impact, petrol and diesel models will continue to be available for the foreseeable future.

While we eagerly await the arrival of the 2024 Mercedes EQG, it's clear that the future of off-road driving will be changed by this quiet yet powerful electric rival. Stay tuned for more details on EQG specifications, performance and pricing in USD and EUR as Mercedes-Benz is sure to reveal more information in the coming months. But it is clear that it will not be cheap.
