It's not often that we break the news about a new smartphone brand, but the Phone (1) deserves this attention.
Nothing Phone is a British brand that wants to change the way we think about smartphones, or at least shake up the "scene" a little and offer users something different, but at the same time familiar, with a smartphone that fits into the middle price range and stands out with a special design and an affordable price. Connoisseurs will find the design of the phone quite similar to Apple products. In any case, the designers "leaned" on the design language of this giant and managed to create something different and at the same time extremely familiar. Of course, in the world of recycled design, this is a kind of prerequisite for the success of a newcomer. And a great recipe.
The price of a newcomer to the market starts at 480 euros and immediately places it in the mid-range, where the Samsung Galaxy A53s and Pixel 6a reign supreme. This is where the newcomer finds himself, even in terms of technical characteristics. It packs a Snapdragon 778G+ that runs Android very similar to stock with just a few tweaks. The basic model offers only 128 GB of storage space, which will be little for many, which is why it is more appropriate to choose a model with 256 GB of internal memory, which works with 12 GB of working memory. This combination, i.e. processor, RAM and "basic" Android, gives this phone "wings" and enables good and fast performance. This, of course, is supported by an excellent screen that measures as much as 6.55 inches and has 1080p OLED technology with an excellent brightness of 1200 nits. The identification sensor is hidden under it. What is most important about the screen is that it can refresh up to 120Hz and it does so dynamically and as needed. The newcomer's battery is 4500 mAh, which makes it suitable for a phone with these characteristics. It charges moderately fast with 33W when you use the charging cable and up to 15W when the phone is charged "contact".
But let's get back to the design Nothing Phone – Phone (1). On the transparent back, which allows a view of certain components, there is a system of "led" lights, which creates an interesting "light" show, which is triggered by certain "notifications", such as the receipt of an online mail or a call. Unfortunately, the limitations of the settings are considerable and the user cannot set, for example, the flashing pattern for a certain type of application. But this is likely to come with a software update. However, the phone is extremely interestingly designed and "nicely" flat and not at all "rounded".
Since cameras are the most important part of smartphones and are excellent even in the 500-euro class, the Nothing Phone with its primary 50 MP camera, which is otherwise IOS stabilized and has F/1.8, performs quite average here. Especially in less than ideal lighting conditions.
The Nothing Phone is a good average phone. He's not the best at anything. But it has a great user experience and a design that is different from the average. If we add to this an interesting price, we have a device in front of us that can squeeze a few cents from the main players.
