Recipe: Best Vegan Jackfruit Burger

This is a great recipe for a vegan burger that at first glance appears to be stuffed with pulled pork. Is not it!

Vegan burger always fits. Morning, afternoon, on a trip, evening. Especially when it's as delicious as this one. A 'pulled pork' sandwich recipe, it really is no meat but will nevertheless impress even omnivores. The tasty content is provided by 'jackfruit' or nangko, which with its neutral texture resembles minced pork. Therefore, it has established itself as an excellent alternative to meat. The ripe fruit is characteristically pale yellow in color and has a subtly sweet taste that can be compared to a mixture of banana, apple and mango. Unripe, however, fits right into this delicious sandwich.

A delicious vegan burger with jackfruit

Ingredients

  • can of 400 g 'jack fruit' in salt water
  • 100 g of sliced tomatoes in a can
  • 100 ml of water
  • 3 tablespoons of BBQ sauce
  • a small onion
  • 1-2 cloves of garlic
  • a teaspoon of smoked paprika powder
  • a teaspoon of hot sauce
  • teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
  • vegetable oil as desired
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Heat the oil in a pan and fry the finely chopped onion. Simmer it for about ten minutes until it becomes soft.
  2. Add smoked paprika, salt and pepper as desired. Mix well and simmer for another minute or two.
  3. Add chopped garlic and fry everything together for about one minute.
  4. Add jackfruit or canned bread, which you previously drained and roughly cut. Mix well.
  5. Mix the diced tomatoes, water, hot sauce and apple cider vinegar, then pour this liquid over the bread.
  6. Cover the pot and cook over low heat, stirring frequently, for about 20 to 30 minutes, until the ingredients are combined and the breadcrumbs are soft enough to cut with a fork.
  7. If necessary, add additional seasoning to the resulting mixture and put it in a sandwich with optional extras.
