Which city in the world offers the happiest life? The answer is now official. The Happy City Index has just released a ranking of 251 cities that proves one thing - happiness has its own formula.
The happiness of cities is no longer a feeling, but a measurable result. Today, rankings reveal, where people actually live best – and why some cities persistently remain at the top.
Copenhagen, Helsinki and Geneva. These three cities are at the absolute top of the world in 2026 when it comes to quality of life and happiness of their residents.
Happy City Index has published a new ranking for the fifth year in a row, this time covering 251 cities from around the world, and the results prove once again that happiness is not a coincidence, but the result of thoughtful urban development.
This year's edition is based on 64 indicators, divided into six areas: population, governance, environment, economy, healthcare and mobility.
From the initial set of more than 3,400 places worldwide, nearly 100,000 were selected for in-depth analysis 1,000 places.

He topped the rankings with 6,954 points. Copenhagen, follow Helsinki with 6,919 points and Geneva with 6,882 points.
Behind them are Uppsala, Tokyo, Trondheim, Bern, Malmö, Munich and Aarhus. The group of fifty best cities, named by the Happy City Index GOLD group, is characterized by a high level of governance, sustainable development and exceptional quality of public services.
Europe dominates, Asia is growing
Among the top ten cities Scandinavian and Swiss capitals dominate, but the ranking also reveals the rise of Asian cities.
Tokyo is in fifth place, Yokohama in eighteenth, Singapore in twenty-second and Seoul in twenty-sixth. Asian cities are increasingly proving that high population density is not an obstacle to quality of life, but can even be an advantage in the development of efficient infrastructure and public transport.
A symbolic place for Kyiv
This year's edition also includes a symbolic gesture of solidarity: 251st place was awarded to Kiev without scoring or comparison, as a sign of respect for the efforts of the Ukrainian city authorities in extremely difficult circumstances.
What makes a city happy?
The ranking reminds us again and again every year that happiness in an urban environment is not an abstract conceptIt is the sum of clean air, accessible healthcare, reliable public transportation, safe streets, and green spaces.
Cities at the top don't achieve this by chance, but by consistently investing in the quality of life of their residents, year after year.
