The MG Cyber X is set to conquer urban centers with its bold boxy design and advanced technology. But that's just the beginning - the reveal on April 21, 2025 in Shanghai will be key!

MG Cyber X. A name straight out of science fiction, a shape straight out of a LEGO box of the future, and a mission – to rule the urban jungles of Europe. The Chinese are clearly not kidding anymore. Cyber X is announced as the first of eight new models that MG is preparing in two years, and it seems that this is not just design experimentation, but a serious appearance on the European market.

On paper (or at least at the moment – on a sketch) the Cyber X seems like the perfect blend of compact utility and electric mobility. The closed grille, hidden handles, robust “boxy” silhouette and futuristic LED light bars hint at a new generation SUV. It will apparently be fully electric or, at best, a plug-in hybrid. We are still waiting for confirmation of this information, as MG is planning an official unveiling for the Shanghai Motor Show.

When the doors of one of the world's largest car shows open in Shanghai on April 21st, all eyes will be on the MG stand.

The futuristic design of the MG Cyber X, which speaks the language of young cities

The design of the vehicle is perfectly adapted to the urban user. The sketches show a very high body belt, sharp edges and “pixel-art” inspired lighting elements. The Cyber X bets on contrasts – the elegantly minimalist interior (at least that’s how we can imagine it based on previous MG models) is said to be imbued with technology, artificial intelligence and digital assistants.

The MG Cyber X is expected to be around 4.3 metres long (placing it in the compact SUV category), while the boxy shape is expected to offer plenty of space inside. This design is not just a fashion statement, but also a functional one – the flat roof and high cabin mean better use of space, especially in the rear seats.

What do we know about the MG Cyber X's powertrain? For now, we're just guessing – and for good reason.

MG has not yet revealed the specifications, but given the current trends and the design of the front end (without air vents), there is a high probability that the Cyber X will be available as fully electric modelThere is a possibility that the MG Cyber X will share its underpinnings with the already familiar MG4, which would mean a battery with a capacity between 51 and 77 kWh, a range between 350 and 520 kilometers (WLTP) and engine power between 170 and 320 horsepower (125–235 kW).

If the MG Cyber X is indeed based on the MG4 architecture, then we can expect acceleration to 100 km/h in less than 7 seconds and fast charging (from 10 % to 80 % in about 35 minutes on fast DC chargers).

MG's big plan: more than just one model

The Cyber X is not a lone soldier. It is the first model in a series of eight new products that MG is planning over the next two years. The new MG4 and two sedans are already coming this year, followed by two SUVs. MG is therefore laying the foundations for a complete overhaul of its range, with which it wants to consolidate itself as one of the leading brands in the electric vehicle segment – not only in China, but also in Europe.

Last year, they sold more than 240,000 cars in Europe, almost half of their global sales. This year, in the first two months, sales have grown by a whopping 21 percent. Add to that the attractive price that MGs usually offer, and it looks like the Cyber X has the potential to become a real hit.

Conclusion: will the MG Cyber X set new boundaries for the urban SUV?

While we're still waiting for technical details and an official reveal, we can already say that with the Cyber X, MG has created not just a car, but an entire concept – futuristic urban mobility that is accessible and attractive. The combination of striking design, spacious interior and electric mobility could hit the nail on the head.

Prices are not yet known, but if they follow the MG4 strategy (which costs around €30,000 in Europe), then we can expect the Cyber X to be extremely competitive – especially against more established European brands.

If MG manages to keep the quality, technology and user experience at a high level, then the Cyber X may not just be a concept anymore. It may be a car that we will see regularly on city streets in a few years – half in the clay, half in the future.
