At a time when the past meets the future, the Renault 5, a symbol of the social revolution of the 1970s, is once again in the spotlight. This time as the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, which will make its world debut at the Geneva International Motor Show on February 26. This transformation of a cult legend into an electric format is not just a tribute to tradition; is a bold twist towards sustainable mobility. We reveal all that is currently known and put together our thoughts.

Renault 5 E-Tech Electric combines nostalgic charm and advanced innovation, paving the way for a new era in the automotive industry. At least it seems that Renault is serious when it builds its exclusively electric cars and not a "hybrid" mixture of both worlds. A car that will be available with a battery capacity 52 kWh, promises a reach of up to 400 km WLTP. Despite the relatively small battery, due to the compact size of the car and Renault's proverbial efficiency, which comes from extensive experience with models such as the Zoe and Megane E-Tech (Nissan), the expected real consumption is around 15 kW per 100 km. This actually delivers on the promised range, especially in urban environments.

The novelty is the presentation of the exclusive R5 R Pass program in seven European countries, announcing how Renault plays on the emotions of fans and enthusiasts by offering them priority ordering and delivery. Otherwise, a completely unnecessary, but interesting marketing move. This is how the French perceive the world around them. However, slightly different from other nations. And so is the R5 different.

Visually Renault 5 E-Tech Electric honors the original with a modern redesign. Iconic headlights and taillights that contribute to aerodynamics, every detail reflects respect for heritage with an eye for the future. Wider fenders and a charging indicator light that forms the number “5” add a modern touch to the car. If the car consistently follows the concept, it will be really interesting in a different way.

In the above pictures, it is clear how faithful they are at Renault in imitating the original.

Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, will be built on the AmpR Small platform, comes with advanced technologies such as bi-directional charging and V2G, which allow the car to feed energy back into the grid. This car is not just a means of transportation; introduces a new mobility ecosystem. Important, because these types of cars will serve as stabilizers of the electrical system in the future. You will also be able to sell the car's energy at an expensive price during peak hours. This is as important as the fact that you will be able to charge the R54 with 22 kW at a home charging station. This is 2x faster than other manufacturers, or most of them.

The affordability of the car, comparable to B-segment hybrids, will be around €25,000, promising a new chapter in the history of electric vehicles. However, success depends on Renault's ability to offer a car with a large battery and rich equipment at an attractive price, up to €30,000 evorv. More will be too much for a car of this size.

The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric is not just a revival of the past; is a revolution that marks the transition to a new era of mobility. At least in the field of emotions, where we don't have many special cars. By interweaving tradition and innovation, Renault proves that an electric future is not only feasible, but also attractive. The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric is more than just a car; is a vision for future generations that wants to put cars with character back on the road.

Personally, I am very much looking forward to the arrival of the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, because the market is calling for cars that are not only functional, but also have soul and character. With the new model, Renault promises just that – a vehicle that will not only be a means of transport, but an expression of individuality and commitment to a better future.
