Furnishing a small living room can often be a source of frustration. If you're not one of the lucky ones with a large space at your disposal, it's often very difficult to organize everything without making the space look cluttered. Fortunately, interior designers are not unfamiliar with this problem, and they have excellent tips to follow when furnishing small spaces, which we reveal to you in this article.

Using lighter colors

The rule that you must follow is that the walls they should not be in darker ones, heavier colors. It is the use of white, beige and generally lighter shades that will visually open the room and seemingly give it a few more squares. Darker colors are the ones that visually reduce and designers agree that they should be left for larger rooms in the house.

Attention-grabbing lighting

When it comes to lighting, it can be much more than just a few floor lamps you have in the room. The correct choice of lighting and its placement in the room can also visually increase the space. For a change atmosphere in the room it is enough to place the lighting in such a way that it illuminates some elements that you want to emphasize. For example, if you have an armchair in neutral colors, the floor lamp you place next to it will emphasize that corner and visually separate it from the rest of the room. This achieves depth, but also seemingly changes the size of the room.

Plants bring freshness

While it may seem like less is more when decorating a room, it's always a good idea to include plants, no matter how much space they take up. Right variety of textures it gives it a certain width in the room and plants are perfect for that. The best location for a bit of greenery is certainly near a source of natural light or windows. It is desirable to place some plants of different sizes there, which will automatically refresh the living room.

Custom furniture

For example, when it comes to a sofa set or some other larger piece of furniture, it is often difficult to find the right size. The offer in salons is often limited to a few standard sizes. If you have decided to place a larger piece of furniture in a certain position, you should rather opt for custom furniture. This allows for a permanent solution that blends perfectly with the space you have available.

Larger rugs

The optical illusion of a larger space is actually very easy to create with help carpet. In a smaller space, a rug can create the illusion of a larger one floor plan areas and thus visually increases the space. Even if the rug is too small, it can create the impression of an overcrowded space, so it is always better to choose a larger option.

Mirror placement

One of the oldest tricks for visual increase of space is definitely the placement of the mirror in the room. It is also recommended to place the mirror next to a natural light source. This increases the distribution of natural light in the room and will make the room appear larger. Today, there are mirrors on the market that easily fit into any style of decoration, from vintage to modern. Whichever option you choose, the mirror will add a touch of elegance to the room without looking intrusive.

Curtains

When it comes to a small living room, a lot depends on the natural light source, i.e. the windows. The bigger they are, the bigger the room will look. Although you cannot influence the size of the windows, it is always good to round them off with lighter curtains. The best choice are those whose length it reaches all the way to the floor. They will visually lengthen the walls, as it is another element that can certainly create the impression of a larger space.
