The vision of urban mobility as seen by Elon Musk

It must be admitted that Elon Musk is an unprecedented visionary and that his visions of the future often upset the world of science. Like his latest idea for a company that will be the fastest in the world to dig tunnels and make it possible to drive under the surface in the future.

Elon Musk he hates the traffic in Los Angeles, where his family spends most of their time. That's why he's been doing it for years with urban mobility concepts, which would save the world from uncontrollable traffic chaos. This problem can be partly solved by autonomous vehicles and, perhaps, by a company Tesla. It's supposed to self-driving autonomous vehicles, which would be aware of its surroundings, could save a lot of time by planning the route and adapting to the traffic flow. But this is by no means enough for Elon. The problem of traffic in big cities is such that it can only be solved by drastic interventions in the environment. That's why his new company digs tunnels or manufactures tunnel boring machines. These are supposed to enable vehicles on special sleds to travel up to speed 150 km/h from one end of the city to the other, thus saving a good part of the time that the inhabitants of such cities spend in overcoming daily distances. The goal of the company is therefore the construction of a machine that would make it possible to dig tunnels 3 to 4 times faster than today's technologies.
