Volvo Iron Knight – a truck built to break records

Volvo Iron Knight truck

Volvo's truck development department is not kidding! Well, sometimes a little bit. Do you remember the famous Jean-Claude Van Damme action hero string between two of their trucks? Or when they let a kid play with their truck like it was a remote control toy? Now they want to break two speed records with the powerful Volvo Iron Knight truck. We will find out whether they will succeed on August 24, 2016!

Volvo Iron Knight truck is created for breaking records. The octane heavyweight has just that 2400 horsepower (1790 kW) and 6000 Nm of torque. A Swedish racer will start chasing the record Ovebrink paints, which will break records at the 500- and 1000-meter distances (both recognized by the FIA).

Even if he fails, which we doubt, you are Volvo he probably won't take it too seriously as he already owns the record, both of which were set by their 1600hp truck Wild Viking, which was able to speed up to 160 km/h. Whether the "Iron Knight" will be up to the task will be known already tomorrow, August 24, 2016, after 10 a.m. (you can watch the live broadcast on the YouTube channel Volvo Trucks).

You probably won't see the Volvo Iron Knight truck on the road in the future, because it is built specifically for breaking records. Only the gearbox (reinforced) is standard I-Shift with dual clutch) and the engine (he borrowed them from the trucks series FH), which is wound to the end (it is a D13 model with four turbochargers).

The truck shell is fully fabricated from carbon fiber, so it weighs "everything" 4.5 tons (power-to-weight ratio: 0.5 hp per kg). For the sake of weight, they installed it only absolutely necessary electronics.
