If we've ever wanted to taste food cooked and baked by a volcano, then we have to go to El Diablo, a restaurant on the island of Lanzarote, which is part of Spain. One of the most unusual restaurants in the world, based in the Timanfaya National Park in the Canary Islands, has an incredible panoramic view of the mountains, and the first idea for it was born back in the 1970s.
The most important part of the restaurant is the grill - an impressive piece of equipment. The grill rests on nine layers of ballast rock and the bubbling lava is just under two meters deep. The grill temperature is a constant 448.8 degrees Celsius and its existence is a kind of geothermal anomaly.
Food baked on a volcano is safe. Scientists were consulted about the danger of volcanic fumes, and they gave the El Diablo restaurant the green light for the volcanic baking method.
Another scientific concern, less likely but not impossible, is the eruption of a volcano. Considering that the volcano last erupted in 1824, there are some questions and doubts, especially because the volcano is still considered active.
The volcano is thus being monitored and scientists will issue a warning in the event of a dangerous change. Until then, we can treat ourselves to a unique meal at El Diablo. Next to the view of the island, the meal with three courses and transportation from the hotel to the restaurant and back, the restaurant also offers a tour of the volcanic grill for 50 euros.
