Before we start bathing, we prepare everything we need: a bathtub, baby soap, towels, cleaning cloths, a clean diaper and fresh clothes. It is not absolutely necessary to use soap on a baby, but if we do use it, we should use very little of it. If we soap the baby too much, his skin can dry out. The room in which the baby is bathed should be sufficiently warm and draft-free. The water in the bath should be shallow, and the temperature around 37 ºC. The temperature of the water can be checked with a forearm or a special thermometer. Undress the baby and wrap him in a waterproof diaper. First, wash his eyes and face with a piece of cotton wool, then slowly place the child in the water. He should still be wrapped in a diaper so that he is not uncomfortable in the water. When we put him in the water, we smile at him and gently plead with him. When the baby is in the water and we managed to keep him from getting too scared, let's slowly wash his body. Soap up a glove or a towel and wash his neck first, then continue on the front and finally the back of the baby's body. Let's not forget the skin folds, also on the hands and feet, and finally wash his toes. Gently lift the child out of the tub and wrap him tightly in a warm towel. The baby's body can be lubricated with lotion or baby oil, which prevents the skin from drying out. If we only wash it with water, this is not necessary. Finally, let's not forget about ears and nails. It is very important to ensure safety when bathing a baby. Let's keep things close at hand so that we don't leave the baby alone in the bathtub or on the changing table. Never leave a child alone, even when he is older and sitting alone. Although he enjoys the water and plays calmly, he can drown in just a few centimeters of water. If we are afraid that we will not be able to bathe the baby by ourselves, it is better to ask someone for help. Who wouldn't want to be next to them when the little one is having a bath!
