It often happens that we prepare more meat than we can eat. Find out how and for how long you can store already cooked meat in the pre-cooking section.
How long can roast meat be kept in the refrigerator?
It is best eaten within two days, but you can keep it in the refrigerator for a maximum of 3-4 days. This deadline also applies if the roast meat is stuffed, as well as for the sauces that go with it.
After preparing the meat, cool it and let it sit for one to two hours before placing it in the refrigerator. If the piece is large, cut it into smaller pieces first, as large pieces take longer to cool, increasing the risk of bacterial growth.
How to properly store roast meat
It is best to store the meat in containers that can be hermetically sealed.
Can you freeze roast meat?
Of course. It will be safe to eat for several months, with many food standards agencies warning that it should be consumed within two months at the most. After this, the meat is still safe to eat for some time, but the quality may decrease.
Make sure the meat is completely cooled before freezing.
How to properly reheat and freeze ready-made meat
Reheating is simple and most methods present no hygiene or safety problems. But since the meat can dry out quickly, which spoils the taste, it is important to retain moisture when reheating. It can be sliced and put in a sauce.
Roasted meat can also be heated in the oven at a low temperature (180C) for about 30 minutes.
What else can you do with roast meat?
You probably know a large number of recipes, maybe you put it in your favorite salad.
You can also make soup if you have leftover beef, veal, lamb, turkey or chicken. Without excessive effort, together with vegetables and spices, you will get a quickly prepared dish that can also be the main meal.
Chop the remaining meat and mix it with thyme, bay leaves, potatoes, onions, leeks, celery and carrots, cover it with the water in which you put the soup cube and you will have a great meal. Serve the soup with warm, crusty bread or toast.
