When we think of super-powerful and high-performance car engines, we rarely think of four-cylinder engines. However, with the help of hybrid technology, straight from Formula 1, Mercedes-AMG is now changing this perception with the release of the most powerful production four-cylinder model in the world in the form of the new C 63 SE PERFORMANCE hybrid.
The heart of the C 63 SE PERFORMANCE is a hand-built 2.0-liter AMG inline-four with a turbocharger connected to a 150 kW (201 hp) electric motor. Together with a 400-volt high-performance battery developed in Affalterbach, this benchmark-setting new engine produces an incredible 671 hp and a combined maximum system torque of 1,020 Nm, enabling a 0-100 km/h time of 3.3 seconds per hour and an electronically limited top speed of 280 km/h. The hybrid engine system is also derived directly from the units currently used by the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team.
The new AMG model also gets the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable four-wheel drive, which means that this feature was first available on the C 63. In addition to boasting a wider stance and a few centimeters more. All in the service of aeodynamics, of course.
