MWC 2015: Johnnie Walker with the first smart whiskey

Johnnie Walker Blue Label whiskey is the world's first smart spirit. The best-selling brand of Scotch whiskey with more than 150 years of tradition merged with the company Thin Film Electronics ASA from Norway, with which they did not mix nanoparticles or anything similar into the "water of life", the intervention was only in the label, which now features NFC contactless technology. This transmits data to the user's smartphone, and it was tried for the first time at the mobile congress MWC 2015.

Today, when every other device is "twice burned" with the adjective smart, it is also Johnnie Walker decided to also characterize his spirit, whiskey, with smart Johnnie Walker Blue Label. In fact, "only" a smart sticker that contains contactless NFC technology, to which a special sensor has been added, which tailors the displayed content according to the recipient, i.e. the model and brand of the mobile device. Of course, for the case to work, it must also contain NFC technology smartphone.

This is a significant leap in quality for labels that have been "tainted" with static in recent years QR codes. A smart sticker turns them into a first-class and exclusive source of information. With Johnnie Walker Blue Label whiskey, you will receive benefits on the screen, get the possibility to communicate with the producer, information on whether the bottle has already been open or not, but clearly the sticker will also be new advertising platform (possibility of content- and time-oriented advertisements).

After opening the bottle, other information will appear, e.g. cocktail recipes, which include Johnnie Walker Blue Label whiskey among the ingredients. And when will this bottle hit the shelves? Probably still before the calendar spring.
