Piëch Mark Zero: an electric beauty that charges in 5 minutes

Piëch Mark Zero

Piëch Automotive is a brand new car brand that has unveiled an electric sports car called the Mark Zero at the Geneva Motor Show. It is the first model from the line of electric cars of this brand, which can boast that its battery can be charged in 5 minutes. In the next three years, we can expect two more models.

Piëch Mark Zero is an electric sports 'grand tourer' that is intended for travel in style. They drive the concept three electric motors - those on the front axle are supplied 150 kW (201 HP) of power, and on the rear axle we have two synchronous electric motors, which provide additional 150 kW (201 HP) of power.

To accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h needs Mark Zero merely 3,2 seconds, and its final velocity is 250 km/h.

The batteries have enough energy for up to 500 kilometer-long route, according to WLTP (Globally Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure) measurements. According to Piëch, Mark Zero is said to be using a completely new version of the battery cell, which during charging and discharging almost it does not heat anything.

For charging up to 80 % capacity should only be needed 5 minutes, which is only slightly longer than refueling a car with an internal combustion engine. As the batteries do not need additional cooling, air cooling is sufficient. This makes the battery system for 200 kilograms lighter compared to battery systems from other manufacturers. The total weight of the electric car thus amounts to only 1800 kilograms.

Part of the batteries is installed on the bottom of the middle car, and the other part around the rear axle, which means that the weight distribution is the same as in classic sports cars. The low seat behind the steering wheel is suitable for this.

Piëch Automotive cooperates with several companies, especially in the field of battery technology (one of them manages one of the largest networks of electric charging stations - under their auspices 210.000 in what 300 cities). Thanks to the modular construction, it is possible to replace the batteries with a hydrogen cell system or replace the electric motor with a hybrid one. In the future, they plan to offer this platform for use by other car manufacturers as well.
