Forget all those weird electric soap operas Mercedes has been drawing up in recent years. Here comes the electric Mercedes-Benz C-Class, promising S-Class comfort and a look we actually recognize.
Let's face the truth. Mercedes-Benz has spent the last few years in some kind of strange design identity crisis, where their electric cars looked like overly licked bars of soap. But with the advent of the new Mercedes-Benz The C-Class Electric seems to have finally found the light switch in Stuttgart – literally. Instead of the EQE’s bloated form that would be mistaken for some futuristic Korean gadget, the new electric C proudly shows off its heritage. Let’s take a look at the new one – the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

The front end is a tribute to legends like the W111 and W108. This is a car with a face. And that face is equipped with 1,050 selectable illuminated pixels that create a light show at night that would make even a New York Christmas tree feel understated. Mercedes hasn't forgotten its star; it's woven into the headlights, the taillights and even the panoramic roof, where 162 illuminated stars can be found. Kitsch? Maybe. Mercedes-like? Absolutely.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class interior: TV on wheels and a "digital photo frame"
If you're a screen lover, you'll be in seventh heaven. If you're not, buy yourself a horse. The interior is dominated by the massive 39.1-inch (99.3 cm) Hyperscreen, which spans the entire dashboard. It's a continuous glass surface that hides three screens.
Those who save money and go for the base model will get a 10.3-inch (26.1 cm) digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch (35.5 cm) central display. Instead of a passenger display, however, you'll get a "digital animated dashboard." In other words, Mercedes has put a digital photo frame in your car for £70,000. But the space inside the cabin is where this car really shines. Thanks to a dedicated electric platform, the wheelbase has been extended by 97 millimetres (3.8 inches) to a total of 2,962 mm (116.6 inches). The result? More legroom than in many a London studio apartment.

Numbers that would convince even Jeremy Clarkson
Let's get down to business – the power. At launch, we'll be delighted with the C400 4Matic version. This beast uses two electric motors that together produce 360 kW (482 hp) and a whopping 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. That's enough to propel this luxury saloon to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.1 seconds (0–60 mph in 3.9 seconds). The top speed is electronically limited to 209 km/h (130 mph), which is more than enough to keep you without a driver's license on any highway outside of Germany.
The 94.5 kWh net battery provides a range of up to 762 kilometers (473 miles) on the WLTP cycle. For those suffering from “electric anxiety”, here’s some good news: with a maximum charging speed of 330 kW, you can gain 325 kilometers (202 miles) of range in just 10 minutes. That’s less time than you spend ordering and drinking a bad coffee at a gas station.

S-Class comfort in a smaller package
Mercedes claims that the ride in the electric C-Class is “as smooth as in the S-Class.” They achieve this with the optional adaptive air suspension with predictive damping. The system uses data from Google Maps and the cloud to scan the road in advance and prepare the suspension for any potholes that the road crews forgot to patch.
And because this is a Mercedes, silence is guaranteed. Laminated insulating glass and additional soundproofing throughout the cabin have been used. The result is so quiet that you can finally hear your own thoughts – which is perhaps the car’s only downside. Urban agility is ensured by four-wheel steering, where the rear wheels turn by up to 4.5 degrees, reducing the turning circle to just 11.2 meters (36.7 feet).

Conclusion: Is this the car you want?
The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Electric is proof that the Germans have finally stopped playing with futuristic experiments and returned to what they do best: making luxury sedans that look expensive and drive even better. Although the C400 4Matic model won't hit showrooms until the first half of 2027, the promise of a range of over 700 kilometers and the comfort of the S-Class is enough to make us wait for it.
The price has not yet been officially confirmed., but expect your wallet to be considerably lighter when you buy it – it will probably start somewhere around 65,000 to 70,000 euros. Is it worth the money? If you want an electric car that doesn't scream "look at me, I'm weird" but rather whispers "look at me, I'm successful", then the answer is yes. This is finally an electric Mercedes that you wouldn't just buy with your head, but also with your heart. And maybe with a slightly cynical smile on your face when you overtake some loud gas station attendant at the traffic lights.
