Mulled wine is a popular mulled alcoholic drink, which is extremely suitable on colder days. When preparing mulled wine, care must be taken that it does not have too much or too little sugar. The grainy structure and too many spices can spoil its taste.
How to prepare mulled wine? There are five rules, which are good to stick to if you want it to be a drink deliciously prepared.
Rule 1: To prepare mulled wine, choose a wine of medium quality. Cheaper and worse wine will develop its flavor even more when cooked. Top wines, however, will lose their flavor when mixed with spices.
Rule 2: When flavoring wine, follow the rule of thumb, namely that light wines go well with green spices - cardamom and basil. Fuller wines go well with heavy spices - nutmeg, cloves. Always choose wines that are dry or semi-dry.
Rule 3: If you only drink red wine, don't be afraid to try white. This is a much more refreshing alternative.
4th rule: Don't be afraid to experiment with different sweeteners and fruit mixes. Use spices whole, as ground can spoil the taste of the drink. Be moderate when adding them as they can develop a strong flavor.
Rule 5: Boiled wine should not be boiled or cooked for too long, because the drink loses its properties during boiling. As soon as the mulled wine reaches a certain temperature and does not exceed 80 degrees, remove it from the fire.
