After seven years of cinematic silence, BMW Films is officially returning to the big screen with the short film 'THE CALM'. We witnessed the premiere at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival. The well-known German car brand has once again joined forces with world-renowned names in the film industry, which promises an inimitable cinematic experience. But this time things turned upside down. Action, complications and... silence await us.

Similar to past films like 2001's The Hire and 2016's “The Escape” (you can watch the film below this entry), BMW has recruited a strong cast, including Uma Thurman and Pom Klementieff in the main roles. Sam Hargrave, known for his work in the MCU and Extraction, directed the film, and Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on Top Gun: Maverick, executive produced the film. The film's soundtrack was composed by none other than Hans Zimmer.

In the movie 'THE CALM' we follow a mysterious passenger who has to make her way through complications and obstacles in order not to jeopardize her mission. The journey takes her to the Hotel Martinez in Cannes, where she runs into Uma Thurman. It all happens in the cabin of the BMW i7 M70, the first luxury electric car with an M engine.

The sound image of the film is quite unique, as it is the "first silent car chase". As director Hargrave says, sometimes the absence of sound is more effective than a lavish soundtrack or powerful sound effects.

Pom Klementieff said: “I've always been a fan of BMW Films, so it's very exciting for me to be the first female lead to join 'The Calm', the first film in the franchise in seven years. Working with Joseph Kosinski, Sam Hargrave and the whole team was fantastic, together we were able to realize this vision.”

With the film 'THE CALM', BMW returns to the world of film with plenty of BMW with the film 'THE CALM' returns to the world of film with plenty of action, intrigue and surprising silence. This exciting and unique approach combines the strengths of the film and automotive industries, while not being afraid to test new boundaries. The presence of the BMW i7 M70 luxury electric car as a central element of the narrative plays an important role in bringing these two worlds together.

The film 'THE CALM' offers plenty of exciting moments and unexpected twists, but the real breakthrough comes in the form of what is not there - sound. At a time when it's usually the soundtrack that sets the pace for our automotive pursuits, BMW opts for the diametrically opposite approach. Hargrave shows us that sometimes silence can be just as powerful, if not more powerful than any sound effect.

This cinematic achievement is sure to resonate in both the film and automotive industries, bringing fresh, innovative ideas. It also puts the BMW i7 M70 in the limelight, which will no doubt help with its market promotion.
