Toyota presents its latest electric car, the Toyota Urban SUV kocnept (bZ2X), which promises to revolutionize the affordable electric vehicle category. Unveiled at Toyota's annual Kenshiki forum in Brussels, this small electric crossover will mark the brand's transition to full electrification. And it is possibly the car that Toyota is developing from "scratch".

Toyota Urban SUV, designed with future and affordability in mind, will be available as early as the first half of 2024. This model will compete directly with Volvo's EX30, Smart 1, as Toyota will offer the vehicle as its most affordable electric model. With a length of 4,300 mm, a width of 1,820 mm and a height of 1,620 mm, the Urban SUV will offer a compact design comparable to the C-HR, but with a slightly higher stance.

Andrea Carlucci, the marketing director of Toyota Europe, hinted that the price of the new model will be around 35,000 euros, which puts it in direct competition with vehicles such as the Opel Mokka Electric, Jeep Avenger, Smart #1 and the upcoming Ford Puma EV other cars like the Zeekr X for example.

Toyota plans to make the Urban SUV available in both single-engine (front-wheel drive) and dual-engine (four-wheel drive) powertrains, catering to different customer needs and preferences. Customers will be able to choose between two different batteries – one focused on affordability and the other on longer range.

According to current information, the Toyota Urban SUV will likely carry the name bZ2 or bZ2X, according to the current nomenclature of Toyota's electric cars. With this, the Toyota Urban SUV will join the growing bZ family, which already includes the bZ4X model.

Toyota plans to offer around 15 emission-free models in Europe by 2026, including both passenger and commercial vehicles. The urban SUV will be the first new EV to join the bZ4X next year as Toyota plans to offer a diverse selection of electric vehicles.

The Toyota SUV, which will be available in the first half of 2024, promises to set new standards in the segment of affordable electric vehicles. With the promise of innovative batteries that will increase the range of the 20% after 2026 while reducing the cost of the 40% compared to the current bZ4X model, Toyota is betting on its new model to take the lead in the electric vehicle market.
