World museums that stand out for their magnificent architecture

There are a number of exciting museums and cultural venues open to the public, characterized by bold designs. If your route will lead you to one of the major tourist cities, while admiring all the other sights, take some time to visit the most famous museums that open the boundaries in architecture.

Bourse de Commerce Museum

In May 2021, in Paris opened a new museum of contemporary art, the new permanent home of the Pinault collection from the 18th century. As with the restoration of Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana in Venice, the transformation and restoration of the old building was entrusted to the Japanese architect Tadao Ando. The building required not only restoration, but also a major transformation worthy of its historical past and able to adapt it to the needs of today's museums. The Japanese architect's project gives the new museum ten exhibition galleries that can be used as a whole or as separate exhibition spaces. In addition to the exhibition and commercial spaces, the Bourse de Commerce contains a 284-seat auditorium with a lobby and an underground studio for audio-visual presentations.

Luma Museum Arles

Luma Arles is an art center in the south of France. It is a 15,000 square meter high-rise designed by Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry. For the building, Gehry took some of his inspiration from post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh, hoping to capture the light that the Dutch artist sought in the south of France, specifically in Starry Night, which was painted in 1889. The building has 11,000 square stainless steel reflective plates. The building includes exhibition spaces, workshops, a library, a 150-seat auditorium and a café.

Shanghai Astronomy Museum Planetarium

Shanghai Astronomy Museum is located in Shanghai. Opened in July 2021, the monumental new museum is designed without straight lines or right angles, echoing the geometry of space and the dynamic energy of celestial movement. Its dome covers 38,000 square meters and is one of the largest astronomical museums in the world. The planetarium, designed by Ennead Architects, serves as an educational and entertaining place for visitors.

Pudong Museum

The Pudong Art Museum was designed by the famous French architect Jean Nouvel. It has six floors with 13 exhibition halls and a roof terrace. Much of the exterior is constructed of white granite, while the facade facing the river is made entirely of glass. Behind this glass facade, two mirrored corridors create an extraordinary, ever-changing viewing platform. The powerful rooms are designed with special multimedia installations in mind. The exhibitions cover a range of classical and contemporary Chinese and international art.

Neue Nationalgalerie

The Neue Nationalgalerie is a museum of contemporary art in Berlin. It is part of the National Gallery of the Berlin State Museums. One of the most revered buildings of the 20th century, completed in 1968 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, reopened at the end of August 2021. Its renovation was designed by British architect David Chipperfield. In the museum you can see many highlights of contemporary art of the 20th century. Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism are particularly well represented.

MKM Küppersmühle

It is an extension of the MKM Küppersmühle museum in the city Duisburg in Germany. The new extension combines industrial culture with modern museum architecture. The building consists of three buildings of different heights, which harmoniously round off a series of buildings. The new construction complements the existing museum complex in a visually appropriate way and forms a suitable conclusion to the series of buildings by the harbor. With five floors, one underground, the building covers an area of approximately 4,900 square meters. The extension is directly connected to the existing exhibition spaces by bridges. Since 1999, the art museum has housed one of the best collections of German art from the 1950s to the present day.

Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is a museum in Los Angeles in California, built by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and dedicated to the history, science and cultural impact of the motion picture industry. Designed by Renzo Piano, it is one of the first museums of its kind in the United States. The building includes two exhibition spaces, lobby, gallery, educational studio, theater halls.

Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen

In November 2021, he was in Rotterdam open art museum. The bowl-shaped mirrored building houses 151,000 works of art that have been collected for 172 years.
