7 culinary trends that will mark the year 2021

Due to the conditions in which the whole world was last year, our habits have changed in many ways. Since we spent most of our time at home, we adapted to the current situation, so when we talk about the food and gastronomic world, we adopted some new habits and learned some new culinary skills.

We started cooking at home, ordering delivery instead of going to a restaurant, and there were some new food trends that everyone tried. Although we've entered a new year, the world hasn't magically changed, so we'll continue to implement many of these acquired habits over the next 12 months. See which gastronomic and food trends will dominate this year.

The ultimate breakfast

Pancakes on Mondays? Why not! Since most people today work from home, we have more time in the morning to devote to breakfast. The era of the cereal bar that we nibble on the way to work or stop at the bakery seems to be a thing of the past. This year, we will see various recipes on social networks for top-quality breakfasts that we will be happy to prepare before we sit down at the laptop and get to work.

“Charcuterie” trays

Since appearing on Instagram a few years ago, cheese and fruit trays have quickly become very popular for their photogenicity and utility. In 2021, however, we will serve other things on wooden trays. According to Pinterest, breakfast trays, which can hold everything from pancakes and waffles to eggs, waffles and everything in between, will be the most popular. In any case, the wooden cutting boards that we all have at home will serve us to create trays for different occasions.

Spicy flavors

Pinterest predicts another gastro trend that will dominate this year. Forget bland flavors because 2021 will be all about spicy food. The number of searches for spicy recipes such as "jalapeño pepper jelly recipe" and "hot honey recipe" has increased on Pinterest, so it seems that food that makes our tongue burn will become as popular as umami.

A complete plant-based diet

A plant-based protein diet is gaining popularity year after year and will be a trend this year as well. More and more people are flirting with veganism, while others are simply choosing food that tastes good and is vegan. A plant-based diet is good for our health, so it's no surprise that its popularity has grown exponentially in the year of the pandemic. This is proven by the fact that flexitarianism, which according to experts is a combination of a vegetarian diet with occasional meat consumption, is the second best diet in the world.

Semi-prepared meals

Although we cook more now than in the "old normal", we must not forget the practicality of semi-finished products and popular semi-prepared meal kits. Semi-finished products can be a truly healthy and complete meal, made from exclusively fresh and high-quality ingredients from verified producers, and meal kits with a recipe and all the necessary quantities of ingredients you need for it give the opportunity to try different dishes that you would never cook yourself.

Fast food

Although we all try to eat healthy, fast food has not gone away. On the contrary - potatoes in a hundred ways and the most delicious hamburger are still at the top of the list when we want "junk" food. In addition, you have probably already noticed the queues in front of famous fast food chains - this is a picture that we will see again this year.

Online cooking classes

Although 12 months ago most of us had not even heard of Zoom, today this video calling app is an integral part of our lives. And since the events and gatherings of more people will not be returning to our lives so soon, we will be doing many things online this year as well. Many famous chefs and food bloggers cook every day, publish recipes and offer cooking classes on their social networks.
