Audi impresses us again in 2024. Coming to the fore is their Q8 e-tron, which now sports a new and better battery and significantly improved aerodynamics. But that's not all, as Audi serves up an improved version - the Q8 e-tron Sportback, which promises a few extra miles in range.
Audi Q8 e-tron 2024, which received its new designation, previously just e-tron, to better define its position in the brand's range of electric and ICE vehicles. This time it boasts improved aerodynamics. The car is now wider and has renewed headlights and mask. A new wheel design, nose slots that open for cooling and close for a more aerodynamic ride, and bodywork around the wheel openings that directs the wind help improve drag. Just a few small tweaks to improve the drag of this otherwise big car.
As the saying goes, "in the small things lies greatness" and this also applies to improved aerodynamics Audi Q8 e-tron 2024. This allows for a longer range, which is EPA-estimated at 285 miles (459 km) for the standard version and 296 miles (476 km) for the Sportback, which can be increased to 300 miles (483 km) with the Ultra package. This is a big improvement over the previous 225–226 miles (362–364 km). realistically, we can count on being able to go somewhere with a large 106 kWh battery 400 highway kilometers.
The increased range is not only the result of improved aerodynamics, however. The 2024 Audi Q8 e-tron now includes a rear motor with additional innovations that create a stronger magnetic field from the same electrical input. The result? More torque and less energy consumption. Together with a battery with a larger capacity (106.0 kWh compared to the previous 86.5 kWh), this enables a greater range.
Reload times have also improved. The Q8 e-tron 2024 can now take 170 kilowatts on a DC fast charger (previously 150 kilowatts) and should be able to go from a near empty battery (10 percent) to 80 percent charged in about 31 minutes. This is still not a record, but it is definitely necessary for such a large battery. Even at home, you can charge it with a 19.2 kw charger for an extra payment of around 1,800 euros, thus halving the domestic charging time. If your home network allows it.
The Q8 e-tron is not only technically perfect, but also pleasant to drive. With 402 horsepower (300 kW) from two engines, it's fast but not too aggressive. It boasts a powerful 0-100km/h time of 5.4 seconds, which is average for electric vehicles, but we think it's just the right amount of power for an SUV of this size.
Improvements to the steering wheel and suspension make driving even more enjoyable. A faster ratio of 14.6:1 instead of the previous 15.8:1 makes for a more responsive steering wheel. The front suspension is reinforced with firmer bushings, and adjustable air springs ensure comfort, able to absorb all bumps.
Inside the Q8 e-tron, the seats are comfortable, both front and rear, even in the Sportback version with a sloping roof. The interior reflects the exterior of the vehicle – the design may be bolder, but it certainly won't disappoint anyone.
Electric vehicles and SUVs are synonymous with comfort and luxury. Audi was smart to recognize this and not try to focus too much on the Q8 e-tron's handling or acceleration. The improved range means less worry about charging, allowing drivers to relax and enjoy a smooth, quiet ride.
With the improved versions of the Q8 e-tron and Q8 e-tron Sportback, in 2024 Audi ranks at the very top of the range of luxury electric SUVs. With improved range, greater efficiency and aerodynamics, they successfully responded to customer needs and set high expectations for future models. And the price... from 74,400 euros in Germany. However, as is completely clear to us, it is a starting price.
