Once upon a time, minimalism was in trend, then a number of different trendy styles of interior decoration followed, but today sustainability is the main guide. This is not only a current trend, but a necessity if we want to create an environmentally friendly society and preserve our planet. Check out some tips for more sustainable home furnishing.

We live in an age when we are increasingly aware of how real the warming of our planet and its pollution are. Human consumption contributes an enormous part to the destruction of our planet, just for example, a little less than half of the items on the bulky waste is furniture. In Great Britain, these figures are so high that the weight of discarded furniture is equal to the weight of 65 Eiffel Towers. So how to create an environmentally and user-friendly home? Check out some tips below.

Choose used furniture

Before you go shopping in furniture centers, first check the offer of used furniture online. Portals such as Bolha, Facebook Marketplace and some foreign websites offer a wide range of better or worse preserved furniture that may only need a small makeover.

Support small businesses

Instead of choosing mass furniture production, you should rather contact smaller craftsmen who will be especially grateful to you for this, as you will directly support their work and the local community. Are you worried that their products are more expensive? Perhaps true, but they are created to a much higher quality than mass-produced products, and they will also be happy to help you if any piece of furniture gets scratched or broken.

With small steps to the goal

In connection with the previous point, it is worth noting that you start the renovation gradually. To begin with, you can just paint the walls and add a new dining table, and purchase the chairs later. There is nothing wrong with shelling out more money for more important pieces, as they will last you longer. Choose furniture that is close to your heart and do not rely too much on trends that come and go.

Reuse

You can largely change the look of the room yourself. If you may have a dilapidated sideboard or dining table at home, you can do it yourself with some renovation skills. Sand off the old paint and apply layers of new paint and protect it properly. You can change the handles on the wardrobe or add new curtains. In this way, you will refresh the appearance of the chosen space, and at the same time, the environment will also thank you.

Keep donating

If you notice that you don't really need certain pieces of furniture, donate them or sell them on.
