How do smells affect our mood?

Did you know that the sense of smell is 10,000 times more sensitive than any other human sense? This is because sensory receptors in the upper part of the nose send messages directly to the brain, where they are interpreted as smells. So it's no surprise that certain smells can have such power over our moods. The right or wrong smell can affect how we feel without us even realizing it.

One of the most famous and widespread fragrance, lavender, helps in relaxation and voltage reduction. But there are also those smells that make our brain stop. Some fragrances, esp vanilla and rosesbut they act as relaxing enhancers mood.

Some pleasant but pungent scents such as peppermint and lemon, proven to sharpen judgement, improve work performance and increase alertness.

Familiar home smells can have a calming, even comforting effect on us. They can generally create dark, rich aromas a sense of comfort. To make the room look bigger, use cucumber, aloe vera or citrus fragrances. For the opposite effect, opt for spicy, woody or sweet scents.

Smell is very important the scent of attraction, especially when it comes to feeling chemistry with a person. Numerous studies confirm that humans subconsciously smell the pheromones of potential partners.
